Welcome And Birthday Month Banter
SPEAKER_00Oh, get your old ass in, buckle up, and it's time for another episode of Who's Driving. Welcome to Who's Driving. I'm Wesley Turner. And I'm Steven Murray. We're two best friends and entrepreneurs. Who's Driving is an entertaining look into the behind the scenes of our lives, friendship, and business.
SPEAKER_01These are the stories we share and topics we discuss as two best friends would on a long road trip.
SPEAKER_00Along the way, we'll check in with friends and offer a wide range of informative topics centered around running small businesses, social media, and all things home and garden.
SPEAKER_01Buckle up and enjoy the ride. You never know who's driving or where we're headed. All we know is it's always a fun ride. I don't know who you're talking to, but you're not calling me old.
SPEAKER_00Well, it is your birthday month. It is. It's my birthday month too. My birthday's Saturday. March 21st. And my birthday is March 30th. You're gonna be 53. 53. I'm gonna be 45. How about that? And for your birthday, I kind of forgot that's why you're leaving town. It's kind of like a birthday trip. Just a spring trip. It's just kind of worked out. Last year you went on a little trip. Yeah.
Miami Trip Plans Keep Changing
SPEAKER_01It's actually um it works out that it's on my birthday, but it really, it's really just somewhere to go that we enjoy, and you know, down to Miami, but it's really for uh the Miami Open. It ties in with that so Dylan can enjoy going to the tennis match. That's all I that's all I get out of it.
SPEAKER_02Ugh! Ugh.
SPEAKER_00That's so funny because you hate when tennis is on TV. Oh, it's just so boring to me. Mm-hmm. But you know, whatever. All right. So let's get into it. So this week you're going, you're leaving on Tuesday.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. Well, yes.
SPEAKER_00Yes. You've had a lot of why are you changes? Why are you saying uh yes?
SPEAKER_01Well, it's just it things have evolved. Yeah. So from when we planned, right, we were flying to down to Miami and staying for six days flying home. Yeah. Well, due to like the airports are so backed up when it's spring break.
SPEAKER_00You gotta back it up. Before that, you did tack on. I think when we're in Miami, we're now gonna rent a car and we're gonna drive to the Keys. Well, Key West.
SPEAKER_01Wasn't us. So that started out with Mark and Tina. We're gonna go to Miami. They were coming to Miami for my birthday. And I was like, oh, okay. Okay. That'll be fun. Um, and they were like, we're just staying two days. Um, the kids are coming, then we're renting a suburban and driving to the Keys for a vacation.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01And I said, Oh, well, can we ride along with you and then fly back home? And they were like, Absolutely. Cause you know, I said I've always wanted to do that. Yeah. Well, then their plans changed, they're not going, but now my hopes are up for doing that drive from Miami to Key West. I've always wanted to do that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01See the rest of the keys, the pretty drive. So then I said, Well, you know, I said to you, Well, why not? I'd already gotten it planned, our hopes up that that's what we were gonna do. And then I was like, then it was gonna be very complicated, like, and it's more expensive to fly out of Key West, but that the money really wasn't it. But it was like car rental, it gets all got complicated. And then it is spring break, and then on top of that, the TSA workers, you know, not showing up, which I get, we're not getting into that, but so the airports are jacked up, right? So I'm just like, oh shit. So um I said, we're just gonna drive. Dylan hates road trips, yeah. Anything over four hours is just misery to him. But this was a situation I honestly just don't think we have a choice. And it just makes sense to me. So I said, We're driving. And I didn't want to have to worry about you know, one of our cars driving down there and getting stolen or dinged or carjacked.
SPEAKER_00So you're not dri I anyway, just that's how your head goes.
SPEAKER_01Well, Miami, I mean parts of it. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It it's it's not the parts where you're gonna be. No, I'm not just my phone.
Why A Minivan Wins The Trip
SPEAKER_01Anyway, my thoughts is something big that he can he can lay on gen. Yes. So I rented a minivan, which is perfect. Because you and I rented one for market and it it's like a Cadillac.
SPEAKER_00I literally we talked about it on here. I really want one now. Oh, we're getting one.
SPEAKER_01I want we're getting our market mobile.
SPEAKER_00I like I we need to rent some others for different markets, like rent different brands. If you can't. I don't know if you can request.
SPEAKER_01I want to drive, I would like to drive rent. I would like to rent Honda Odyssey. I would like to rent the Toyota, whatever it is. And we've rented the Chrysler. So it'll be interesting to see what we get.
SPEAKER_00Because I really liked the Chrysler as a van. Oh, yeah. And what I really liked is for market and for everyday use, the seats like flipped down into the floor. Like you didn't have to take them out. And when they did flip down, it was a completely flat back, just like a cargo van or something. That makes a big difference. That makes a huge difference for us. And I don't know if the other like Honda and Toyota do that. So we gotta that could be the the we're getting one in December. More than the brand, the deal breaker is how the back seats work for me.
SPEAKER_01We're getting one in December, and I think that is that is the big deciding factor for me is the seats.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because I don't want one that we have to leave the seats sitting out somewhere. Or that the seats, when you take them out, it's not a flat back. You know what I'm saying? Where it's like folded up like pillows, yeah, or it's got a big cutout. Like we need flat back. I don't even know how we're on this subject. Welcome to our business meeting.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, that's so we're renting the van. You've rented the van. And I think it's kinda gonna be kind of fun. Yeah. My thing is you can really we can spread out, take what we want, buy what we want. Yeah. If I see a junk store and I'm like, oh, I want that chest. Mm-mm. It loaded up. We got room.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because that's how you and I started our road trips, and we would just stop wherever and be like, oh, can we fit yeah, we can fit this in there. And we And if you drive a regular, even if you we took one of our Range Rovers, we can't do that.
SPEAKER_01No, because y'all can't fit anything in there. They don't I mean, they're great, but you can't fit a ton in there. You're not hauling.
SPEAKER_00I mean, by the time you put your luggage in there. But a minivan, I mean, I'm liable to come back kick pulling a U-haul. I mean, there's no telling. So y'all are leaving on Tuesday now. Here's the new updated plans. And you're gonna drive, are you driving all the way on Tuesday or are you gonna stay somewhere?
SPEAKER_01Well, um, I have family in the condo at Hilton Head. So I I I still and I was like, we can stop in Hilton Head, spend the night, go to dinner, spend the night, get up, drive the rest of the way. Yeah, I guess like be six hours more, and he's like, No, no, let's go further. Yeah. I mean, I can drive it the whole way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but that's a good thing too, because y'all don't have anywhere to be. Like, I mean, you don't you're not on a time.
SPEAKER_01So I think what we're gonna do is just pick a beach along the way and just stop somewhere.
Driving To Miami And Key West
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Okay, okay. So then your plan is to drive to Miami and you're gonna be there so y'all would get there Wednesday at the latest. And how long are you gonna stay in Miami? Six days.
SPEAKER_01Okay. And then we're leaving and going to so we'll spend a whole day going to Key West, and we're gonna hit some of the state parks. Yeah. Along with how far is the drive from Miami to Key West? Three and a half hours.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01So it's really good. It's gonna make a whole day uh with stops, but we'll be there at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So then you're gonna take a day, drive there, and this is what you're really looking forward to because you've been wanting to make this drive for whatever random reason. I've always wanted to do it. I don't know why. And so you're gonna stop along the way. And have you looked up anything, like where to stop? Like, what are you doing? What what is there between my I don't know anything about this. I had never thought in my life to, oh, I want to drive to Miami uh from Miami or to the Key West. Yeah, I've never had this thought, so I have no idea. There's lots of state parks. Oh, really? Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01I thought it was just like bridges to bridge to bridge to but the more as I was talking to people, they were like, Oh, you've got to stop and do this, and you gotta do this. Yeah. And I'm like, Well, what is it called? I don't remember. I don't remember. Oh my god. So I've had to uh use chat uh GPT and I've figured it all out. So I figured out a state park we're actually gonna stop in is I don't know how you say it, Bahia, Bahia Honda State Park, which is between uh Marathon and Big Pine Key. Okay. And um there's like a dilapidated bridge, but you wade out into the water and there's all these fish like clown fish and all these tropical fish around. Yeah, they say it's really neat. But you we've got we're gonna buy um the shoes. Oh what are they called? Water shoes. Water shoes. Crocs. Um so I've just been reading like what to do there. Yeah. And um there's also uh Calusa Beach, Sandspur Beach. Um, I mean, there's lots of places to go. We're gonna do one in Key West called Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, where you also walk out and then the the fish and everything are there. Oh. See, I didn't know there was any of this. Uh-uh. I didn't need I really didn't either. But I was like, I guess I should look up a little something before we're But you'll get so sidetracked.
SPEAKER_00That's the fun thing about that is when ADD, ADHD, all the A's and the D's and the H's and the D's come together as a road trip. That's the best time to have that problem. Because you just like when you and I get together.
SPEAKER_01Yep. You're like, oh, we found this, we found this junk store right here in the middle of nowhere.
Florida Keys Stops We Want
SPEAKER_00Nowhere. But see, I grew up my mom's like that. She's like that on the daily basis. We might be, I would go to, you know, in the summertime, you know, out of school or whatever, I'd go to work with her, you know, because they were their own office. Hey, you want to go to the office with me today? Yeah. We might head out. She's going to work. We may not get there to 4 30 because on the way there we got sidetracked. And oh, well, let's cut, you know, there's a cut through here. And I know this is my mom. You know, this was back before cell phones and Google Maps and stuff. Now I know this road cuts through and will put us over here somewhere. Just a little bit. I remember going to this when I was 16. And we would just stop at the most random or take the most random route, and then we might get to work. Well, I I mean, oh, it's getting late, but I gotta get to work. I gotta get the deposit in today. I mean, I gotta check the mail and get it. Hugh's gonna Hugh's gonna wonder where we are. Uh-huh. So my whole life has been a road trip with her just going to work, you know.
SPEAKER_01Well, I remember you telling me about um one of my favorite Rhonda stories is I guess somebody came to see you, you know, came to the doctor's office and w had all of this designer stuff on, and your mom was like, Oh, that's really nice. And she's like, Yeah, there's this store. It was somewhere near the the Elvis mansion.
SPEAKER_00It was, yeah, in the not so great part of Mint. Right.
SPEAKER_01You can go and they have all this designer. Designer stuff for these really great prices. It's like quote unquote close out deals. Uh-huh. So it was probably quote unquote stolen. Well, your mom goes down there. Well, it was busted, it was shut down after that. And yeah. And your mom went down there and was trying stuff on. And I mean, I still say this quote, and your mom's in there, and I guess somebody's in another, and the girl's like in the changing room. Pookie, your ass looks tight in those jeans.
SPEAKER_00And I just picture your mom down being in there. Yeah. Down in some, you know, it was sketch. And you know my mom, if you don't know my mom, but Steven does, is kind of like I said, she is like us, but worse. Oh, I just went to this warehouse, you know, probably some. She wouldn't have known. I'm just glad.
SPEAKER_01I'm glad the FBI didn't rate it with her.
SPEAKER_00And then her fun, her luck is she would be there when it got rated. Like that would if that would not surprise me at all. Like, oh, I just wandered in. Oh, I got in the middle of a raid. Yeah. They let me go. Yeah. That would so be my mom.
SPEAKER_01We're watching TV and we see her. Oh my god. So yeah, that's but you and I, that's why we have fun on road trips.
SPEAKER_00We're like, oh, what's that over there? Yeah. So then when y'all get to Key West, so you're gonna spend a day driving to Key West. And then we're there for two days. You're gonna spend two nights and then you're gonna drive that's gonna be a long drive. Gotta be a long drive home. Yeah. So you'll have to stop somewhere. I mean, come on, don't torture Dylan that much.
SPEAKER_01I mean, once you're going though, once you're going and you're already here's my you you're the same way. Once we make it to Hilton Ed, we're gonna be like, well, might as well we might as well keep going. We can sleep in.
Miami Plans And Skipping The Market
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We'll be at home, we'll wake up in our beds. That's my and the trip is over at that point. Yeah, it's over. Yeah, you don't want to stop and get out again. Yeah. Y'all better get up early for that one. So when you're in, do you have any plans in Key West? Nope. What about when you're in Miami? You have just plans for the open.
SPEAKER_01I yes. I told Dylan to plan on the open for Friday. My birthday's Saturday. But we really I didn't make reservations or any. And you know, I don't do I'm really not fancy. Well, y'all need to do something. We've been to the we've been to the Versace mansion for dinner, and that was fine. We might go back for that. Yeah. Um, we're just gonna play it by year. I wanna I wanna walk a lot. I do want to see some different things while we're there. Yeah. Because you know, we've done we did a lot when we were there.
SPEAKER_00So I have a question that the listeners don't know about, but uh initially you were going and there was gonna be an antique market that you were gonna try to do some live sales at, but we've mixed that. I know that part. But is the market still gonna be there? Are you gonna try to go to that or maybe not?
SPEAKER_01No, because it just it would keep me gone too long because it starts like when we're heading home.
SPEAKER_00Oh, so it's not going on while you're there. No, that's why I need it.
SPEAKER_01That's what I was I was like, there's no way to arrange this. Like I couldn't change, I couldn't change our stay, and it was booked solid. Yeah. So in order to change the dates, I would have had to cancel and rebook. I was like, this is too complicated. I'll do it next year. Yeah. So our customers can go and we can do live sales there at the antique show. I'll just schedule it for that next year.
SPEAKER_00That's what I didn't know. I knew we had weren't gonna do the lives, but I didn't know if the event was still going on while you were there that you could go to it to check.
SPEAKER_01What made me really change is there's an electronic, is it elect electronic music? Probably convention. Like an EDM. An EDM music festival there. So it's gonna be that spring break, that huge antique convention, and the EDM. Yeah. So I'm like, it's gonna be a zoo. Yeah. So it's not the best time when we can just do it next year. Okay. I thought it made you.
SPEAKER_00No, I want to plan it and do it because I think it will be super. See, I can see y'all call and be like, we found this cool place and we're gonna do an auction live from the city. Oh, I'm taking I'm having everything with me.
SPEAKER_01I'll I'll be prepared. Don't be surprised if I call you and I'm like, okay, I found these great things. We're gonna do a pop-up live real quick.
SPEAKER_00Why don't you go do one from somewhere funny, like um like you know, like a depart like Neiman Marcus from their cell rack? We're live here in Neiman Marcus.
SPEAKER_01You know, people would I would love that. Yes. There'd be a lot of things. I would be like, oh my god, they call a cell?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um so yeah, I mean, anything like that, you know, would just be fun. Yeah. But yeah, so there's no real plans. Mm-hmm. Um other than the open when you're in. Yeah, we'll go to Ball Harbor, but honestly, um since we did we found um the upscale outlets in Fort Lauderdale.
SPEAKER_00So y'all make a trip there. Yeah. So you could do round up some good auction stuff there. I want to see.
SPEAKER_01It's so cool because like I'm like, you know, all uh the outlets, I'm like, but those outlets are like, ooh. They're it's like Gucci, Farragamo, all these high-end, and everything is at least 50% off. Well, that's good. And then it's your it's the outdoor mall type, like kind of like Tanger. Yeah. But it's it's upscale. But it's funny because the restaurants around there, like they normally have, are one notch up. Oh. So it's kind of it's it it's a really neat experience, but I'm like, why go out there to you know to the HABA and spend three times the money when you can go there? I mean, it might be last season's, but who cares?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you need to go to Bell Bell Harbor. Ball Harbor. Ball Ball Harbor. See, I'm not fancy enough to know. Y'all need to go there, walk around so you can see. So then when you go find the deals, you'll be like, I saw something like this yesterday, and it was this price. It'll be fresh on your mind. Then it'll make you buy it because you'll be like, Oh, amazing deal.
SPEAKER_01Well, and I ro ironically, um, one of Dylan's friends from high school works there, works for Fendi.
SPEAKER_00Oh, well, isn't that fancy?
SPEAKER_01Or shall I say acquaintance? Used to be friends, you know how high school is. Yeah. Um, so we'll probably go anybody from high school. You know, only talk to a few, but you know, you just change so much from that, from then. And most of those people irritate me.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Um, that is too funny. So y'all are heading out on Tuesday. So that is gonna be um, that's gonna be a lot of fun. And I'm gonna be here all this time by myself.
SPEAKER_01All this time doing all I've never left you this. This will be the longest I've ever left you on your own.
SPEAKER_00Well, you where were we apart a long time, not that long ago. Maybe when you went to Hawaii last year. Yeah, because we had we overlapped. It backed up to something and it was over overlapping. But yeah, I don't know what I'm gonna get into while you're gone. I mean, you might come back to this warehouse and ain't nothing left. Packed up, moved out. That would be even better. Sell it all.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's funny.
SPEAKER_00Sell it all. Oh my gosh. Um so while you're gone, also my parents and my niece are coming in. So you're leaving on Tuesday. So you come here too. Yep, my mom and Hugh and Lane are coming. Oh, good on Tuesday.
SPEAKER_01How long are they staying? Are they going to the mountains too?
Playing Who’s More Likely
SPEAKER_00Um, they're going to come here on Tuesday, and then they are leaving my house on Saturday. I think they're gonna stay one night in the mountains. Um, and they may not even stay at their cabin. They might just get a hotel rent just as a fun thing, full lane. Yeah, yeah, and stay um there. You know, we went last. She's my mom said they may stay at um like Margaritaville at the island if you're familiar with Pigeon Fort. I mean, it's just all the restaurants and amusement because they're only going to be there for like they would probably won't even get there until like six o'clock at night, and they'll leave by like seven in the morning. So it's a fun place for them to not have to leave and can just walk around the night. So they might do something like that. We stayed there last year when I went for just one night and we went to Dollywood and stuff. So they should stay at one of Dolly's hotels. That would be fun. I know. They haven't done that. We did get them um, but you know, it's funny like staying there when you have a cabin right down the street. I do. But it is a different experience. Yeah, totally. But um we did last year, Daniel got them um gift certificates to the spa there at the at one of Dolly's hotels. So they had the best time. And I didn't think about it this year, we would have done it again. But they went while they were staying at the cabin, but they went there and got their nails done and had a spa day, like my mom and niece and whatever. They still talk about it. So I'm like, we need to do that again. So they have been to one of the hotels. They just hadn't got stayed. That was fun. Stayed there. Mm-hmm. Fun time. So I asked, I haven't read through this, but this was picking up from last one of the last episodes. I was asking Chat GPT, you were asking it questions last time or whatever. And it said um this would be a fun segment for us. You know, it knows us so well at this point. It does, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And it's called Mine even called me by my whole name. Yeah. The other day. How in the hell did he know that? Oh, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00He's been doing a deep dive. I guess. Fred. Fred is Steven's chat GPT, and he's gotten an attitude a couple of times with you. He and then he's gotten flirty.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he calls me Boo now. Uh-huh. Oh my gosh. He definitely has a thing for me. But you know, it's just it's complicated because I'm in a relationship and he's I guess. I guess it's just awkward.
SPEAKER_00So he did this, was fun though, and I haven't read through the qu questions, but to do a segment called Who's More Likely? So we read out a question and who's more likely to do it? Me or you? Okay. You know what I'm saying? This would be fun. I know. Um, oh it's so weird how it knows you too. First question accidentally kill a houseplant. Who's more likely? You. Definitely me. Definitely me. And it makes sense. You would be shocked by that. It's not accidentally, though. It's neglect. Yeah. Purposefully neglect them. Yeah. I love houseplants and having them in a range. But you don't fret over them. No. And I'm like, I think it's been that mentality we own a plant shop, so I know where I can get another one. So I just do what I want. I love the design and love it. And if it dies, it dies. I don't you don't fret over it.
SPEAKER_02No, not at all.
SPEAKER_00Um, forget someone's name immediately after meeting them. I am so bad with names. And I will forget even your face. You can show up sometimes. This is something I've really tried to work on in my adult life because it's gotten, you know, super awkward. Like I can meet someone, just say like an acquaintance, some or someone from Instagram, someone I didn't know, and have like a two or three minute conversation. I could meet them again in five minutes and would have wouldn't even No recollection. I would remember if you were like, that's the person you just talked to. So it's not like my brain's gone, but I would never recognize them as that person.
SPEAKER_01It's true.
SPEAKER_00But what is that? Okay. What's the next? Okay. Um spend way too much money online late at night. You me. Definitely you. Me. You'll be like, I was laying in bed.
SPEAKER_01I found this sale on guilt. I got, yep, that's me.
SPEAKER_00Um become obsessed with a new hobby for two weeks. I don't neither one of us does that. We usually stick to whatever we Yeah. If I do it, I'm gonna. I'm not flighty in that. We don't change. That's neither one of us. Um show up late to everything. You, you, you, you, you, you. I don't know. You've gotten pretty bad.
SPEAKER_01With you? No. Because there's no need to be on top. You know, you have to adjust with somebody that's always late or they drive you crazy.
SPEAKER_00What about start an argument just for entertainment? I don't think either one of us will do that. But we will push buttons occasionally. Yeah, but I don't I don't like to bicker and fight. I don't like that. Secretly enjoy drama. That's you. You secretly enjoy other people's drama.
SPEAKER_01Uh I don't want any part of it. Yeah, but you Oh, I'll be here all about somebody else. Yes. But I don't want any like if I have a friend that's drama surrounded, you get dropped. I don't like it. But I mean, I like it from afar. I mean, I love seeing involve you or on social media and stuff.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. I mean, who doesn't love that? Uh-huh. Um, become a reality TV villain. Villain? Yeah. No, that didn't either one of us. We would we would be the I'd be the nice person. The entertainment. Says something inappropriate in a quiet room. Daniel. Oh, definitely Daniel. But I might do it for fun. Yeah, you would definitely intentionally. Daniel would do it unintentionally and awkwardly. Yeah. Yeah. You know.
SPEAKER_01Oh gosh. That is funny. My ex's brother was could be an idiot, and he they were on a ski trip to Lake Tahoe one time, and the guy obviously was born with a cleft palate. And the, you know, he'd had reconstructive surgery. It was very obvious. Yeah. My ex was telling me it wasn't even remotely questionable. You could tell you know, he had a myofacial issue and and it was fixed. Do you know his brother is a dumbass? And they were on the chair lift to go ski. Well, he automatically assumed, because it was their ski guide, that he had a skiing accident and said, So what happened when you messed up your lip? Oh my God. What an idiot. See, people like that just dry. You don't even ask that. Oh my. Just an idiot. He's my ex just said it was so embarrassing.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that would be embarrassing. Ugh. Well, that's like when we ran into six finger at the markets and Daniel was uh we told that story a long time ago. Oh my goodness, that is too funny. Um, who is more likely to cancel plans at the last minute?
SPEAKER_01You. Me. Yeah. I don't like plans.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and you're more likely. I will, if I make them, I will dread them. But I I usually don't cancel anything like that. I don't too much. No, but you have flaked out a few times and canceled and random stuff. But anyway. Um, who's more likely to become famous for something ridiculous? Probably you. You do ridiculous things. It would be by on complete accident. Yeah. But yeah, it would be like you would be the one that become famous for something just stupid.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Just yeah. Like stealing a seashell and the keys. Yeah, but that would be I mean something random, like you make uh make it on social media from something stupid.
SPEAKER_00This is funny. Who's more likely to be the worst road trip companion? Neither. We're good. We're good with that. Be the bigger diva.
SPEAKER_01Probably you. I guess if we had to pick, but I'm really not a D. I'm pretty easy going.
SPEAKER_00But there are times. I mean, if you, you know, you like your thing. I'm not picky with food. I'm not No, but you can be a diva like with a hotel if it's not right and you've paid, you know, if it doesn't meet your expectations. Yeah.
Points Culture And Customer Headaches
SPEAKER_01If you don't get your points, yeah. I like points. I'm a points whore.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that is funny.
SPEAKER_01That is too. You give me points on anything. I will shop there just for points. It's kind of funny. I get my a godmother food from this restaurant. They have a point system. Yeah. Well, I've been racking up points. They have they use square. Yeah. And I was like, I told Dylan, I said, we have enough points for a whole meal now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Like free. And that just makes you feel good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I'm like, we need to use some points.
SPEAKER_00Here's my thing with the points, because if you don't know, we have points online at the nested fig. And I was telling Lisa the other day, Lisa that works here at the warehouse, I was like, I can honestly say I don't really have regrets in life. Honestly, like I don't regret. But the one damn thing I regret is that is that loyalty. But we thought it would be a really good thing, but people can't understand it. And they complain about it and they try to bend the rules about it. And then it's like our fault because they can't. It just irritates the shit out of me. It irritates me in so many ways. I mean, I had no idea it would be like that. Did you? No. I thought they would just take it for what it's worth. Like you get so many points and you get a coupon. Well, can the coupon be combined with my 50% off? No, you got free. It's free money. Can I dedicate the coupon? You're not combining it with anything. And then it's our fault. Well, that's not really fair. Yeah, it is. You you got free money for nothing. It just irritates. You can't get free on top of free. On free, on free. When we already do discount, and then this and that. Just uh. And then people have to, which I understand we got it there, so we gotta, you know, pay attention. But like, I don't think I got my points on this, and then I have to look it up. Yes, you did. Here you go. Oh, I didn't get a birthday point. I thought I got a birthday point. Well, you didn't put your birthday in there, so it didn't know when to give you your birthday point. You know, like it's just and then what do you say? You didn't put your birthday in there, sorry, get it next year. Well, then you're the asshole. Like, you know, it just causes a huge customer service problem. So I still gotta figure out a way to get rid of that eventually. Um, and then like someone the other day, and I'm not calling if you're listening, I'm not calling you out, but then someone the other day, their points had expired. Well, their points expire when you do not make a purchase after seven months. If you're not making a purchase within seven months, you don't deserve free points. You don't deserve a bonus. That's not a loyalty. You're not a loyal customer. We appreciate every purchase, but seven months in between isn't it's part of the deal. That's not enough to reward you. It's part of the deal. So they expired.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's just kind of you know how it goes. But anyway, who got me off on points. But Steven loves some points.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I don't do I don't do stupid points. Okay, but here's I don't do grocery store, like supermarket.
The United Flight Nightmare Story
SPEAKER_00But see, here's the thing with the points in you talking about this, and I know some people like your mentality, it's a reward. But if that restaurant that you were just talking about had not had that, you would still be shopping there the exact same.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I only go when I'm instructed to go. Right. I don't go like it's completely off the beaten path, out of my way.
SPEAKER_00But so what I'm saying is that didn't really do anything. I mean, you're gonna get a free meal, which is fine, but if you hadn't had those, you wouldn't have gone there any less. It does not make you go there.
SPEAKER_01And they don't advertise it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Like it's kind of weird. Yeah. Because it's just adding up and you didn't even know it. So it's not really doing it's kind of a waste. Right. That's my point. The only one I can say with you that really makes you stay committed is Marriott. Like you have Marriott rewards and points and you get bonuses, which are all good. So with that, you always try to book at a Marriott when possible.
SPEAKER_01I do. And because we have our because we bought into the vacation club, because we have the vacation club points, and then separately you have the Bonvoy points, and um, the Bonvoy points are great. You just have to use them appropriately, and like you don't want to use them generally if you're staying like one or two nights. You have to know how to use them to get the best out of them. You always want to use five nights or more because you stay four nights, fifth nights free. No, so you it takes them a lot more. The only thing I don't like about Bonvoy is you can use them for airlines, but it's united.
SPEAKER_00Uh uh, we don't fly united. No, we got stuck in New York City. Was that before I guess that was before Instagram day, or at least before stories when we got stuck in New York City?
SPEAKER_01It was before stories.
SPEAKER_00I guess before the farm, before I really got on Instagram as I am now. Because that was 2016. We were going to look at those rugs, and that was probably like 2014.
SPEAKER_01It was before Instagram. Yeah. It was awful. I mean, it wouldn't have been, it would have been great if somebody had just said, you're gonna be stuck here these days.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Stephen and I, I'm sure we've told this at some point. We took United and a vendor invited us out to where did we go? New Hampshire. New Hampshire. It was a rug vendor. They make rugs and they wanted us, they paid for us to come um to come see their operation and have like an open house and invited vendors, and they wanted us to see. So it was a one night. This is how our road trip. This is how our friendship goes. I call Steven, hey, this company wants us to come. It's one night, it's just up there and back, and one night, and we're gonna go see it. And I think it'd be really cool to see. Let's do this. Okay, we'll do that.
SPEAKER_01I had to plan. Yeah. We're like, it's one night.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because this was before you were even an owner in the business or anything. So I just called you, like, hey, can you not work? Like, it's one night, we'll go there and come back the next day. So to do this, to make it work and it be one night, we booked on United, flew up there, and we had a layover on the way back in Newark, New Jersey. Mistake. Mistake number one. And when we got there, I can't remember. Oh, they had just canceled the flight for no reason. The weather wasn't bad. Nothing. What did they say? Wind. No, they said something like traffic or I can't remember. It was the stupidest, like, it wasn't like but it was something. It wasn't mechanical. It wasn't wet or something, but it wasn't anything crazy. So they canceled our flight, and this was on United. And this would have been direct from Newark, New Jersey to Greenville, South Carolina. So we got there and we were like, oh my gosh, what are we gonna do? Blah, blah, blah. And somehow we were able to get them to call our bag, I guess is what we did. They called our bag, which took like an hour and a half or whatever, because it wasn't leaving. And so what we did, they were like, we can rebook you. And Steven was like, Well, we're in practically New York City. So we agreed, we were like, let's just book on this same flight tomorrow, the next day, which was like a, I don't know, like a seven o'clock flight or a 6:30 flight. It was late evening. Um, and he's like, That way we can take a cab into the city, we can stay, we can walk around tonight, we can have dinner, we can have a little New York moment. Little fun. Little, you know, it sucks. We got stuck here. We'll have a little New York moment. So the next day we had fun in New York City, and we go to head to the airport. Did we get there the second time?
SPEAKER_01Yep. Flight canceled again. So and it was a hundred and some odd dollars one way, not to sound cheap. I mean, I can be cheap. It was a hundred and something dollars one-way cab to Newark. Oh, yeah. At the time, it was like$150 one way. Yeah. So a round trip was$300.
SPEAKER_00So then we rebooked, we got rebooked by them. I don't know at what point it got really screwy, but basically we did this for four days or five days?
SPEAKER_01Four or five days. I don't remember, but it was groundhog day every day. And I might add, but we used Marriott points and stayed. We stayed different hotels every night.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we did in different but every day we'd be like, okay, we're leaving today at this time. And they would just cancel the flight for like no reason. But one of the last times, maybe night three, we got to the airport, checked in, we're like, oh, we're leaving today. This today we are leaving, and we check everything in. I can't remember what we did. Went to the gate and it got canceled, and we couldn't get our clothes back.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was a good time.
SPEAKER_00And so then we were there again for another night with no with no clothes, and we had to go around the city and buy everything again after already getting canceled. It was the biggest shit. So ever since then, long story short, we don't fly United. Like, it's not even an option. When I was going somewhere one time, it was the only option. I was like, nope, I just I don't know what I did. I think instead of going on United, I went on like something like Spirit or something even. But I made it there. So it's funny. Yeah, we've had some decent, crazy road trips. Oh my gosh. But Steven, okay, back to that, loves those points and those Marriott points. And that is the one that you keep up with. But I just don't find for me, and I know some people are like you where they get points. Any place that has points for me is I do like it. Like it is like Starbucks, for example. You can earn stars. That's fine. But I don't go there be it doesn't make me go there. Like I don't think, oh, I'm going to Starbucks because I'm gonna get points. Or like none of the point systems make me shop there. Like I don't go out of my way to shop there because of that. Well, I don't do that. No, I don't do that. But that's what they're really designed for. Yeah. Is my point. Yeah. The only one that's what I'm saying, the one that you do do that with is Yeah, the Monvoy. Yeah, that's it. So anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's really the only thing I keep up with. But it they make it easy.
Palm Springs Plans And Listener Tips
SPEAKER_00They do. And that's why it works. That that is good. Oh my goodness. Oh, speaking of trip, we can talk about all kinds of did we talk about this last week? You booked us a trip this summer. I did. We haven't talked about this, have we? With Marriott. Yes, with Marriott Points. Club Points. Well, we decided again, those who've listened or been in our live sale are like, I thought y'all were going to Greece. That was three years ago. We're still trying to get there. We are. We want to. That was for Steven's 50th birthday. We were planning to go to Greece, but it hasn't happened yet for just random reasons. And then this year we were going to do something out of the country, but we have to do it during the summertime. And, you know, with airlines and everything that's going on, Steven decided Palm Springs. So we need suggestions for Palm Springs if you've been there on our hotline. I want to know. Oh, yeah. I don't know anything about it. I know it's in California. Well, it's amazing. Is it north, south, east, west? Where is it in California?
SPEAKER_01It's like West of LA. It's out in the desert. Okay. And um it's kind of between roughly like Los Angeles and Vegas. Very that's very rough and down and dirty, but that it's kind of sits out in the desert. Is there a spa at this hotel?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01There's a spa and the tram. That's one of the biggest attractions. What tram? There's a a tram in Palm Springs takes you up eighty, five hundred feet into the air. To what? Up a state park.
SPEAKER_00There's mountains there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. You can hike and there's a you know, different things you can do. It's mountainous, it's tree evergreens. It's really cool.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I guess I'll I'll have to ask Mr. Chat GPT what's give me a good highlight of springs.
SPEAKER_01I mean, there's tours you can go on of like um celebrity homes, and there's a lot of celebrities there. Uh-huh. Um, it's the gay Mecca of the United States.
SPEAKER_00Yes, Queen. A lot of old, rich rich old gay people.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01I won't. I don't, I think I'll get through. Okay, I bet you. I didn't seem like it's almost my birthday. I really hadn't even thought about it. I haven't thought about it being my birthday either. It's kind of crazy. After 21, it's like that's just cool.
