Dylan Joins For Bed Bug Truth
unknownBeep beep.
SPEAKER_04And you're here, and we have a hitchhiker this week by popular demand, really. More than more than request. We have Dylan, Dylan here today. He's he's riding along because Dylan, aka my little bedbug. Oh my gosh. My little getting me started. Oh, we're getting started. So if you didn't hear last week's episode, you have to go back because this is a continuation from last week. Everyone wanted to hear Dylan's side of the story and the bed bugs. And are we exaggerating? Was it the truth?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I made him listen to last week. So I was like, you can correct me on anything I was wrong.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02What did I get wrong? Nothing wrong. Nothing was wrong.
SPEAKER_01It was just a horrible experience all the way around. It was a great vacation. It was, but the problem was it was our last day. We were checking out. We were so excited for this drive to Key West. You had been looking forward to the drive.
SPEAKER_02It did deflate the day.
SPEAKER_01I went and got our coffee to get us started. Yeah. I moved the pants and it went scurrying. It just ruined it.
SPEAKER_02I was so excited about the drive. I think we're going to have to do the do it one more time. Oh. Because I felt like it was so I know it just ruined the day.
SPEAKER_04That's the only thing. I mean, you're just now in the last day hadn't mentioned bed bugs. I just I have. Just not to me.
OCD Loops And The Spiral
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay. You know how he is with his OCD. Yeah. So that's it.
SPEAKER_02And it's not, and when we say OCD, folks, we're not really just throwing that term around. I'm I'm legit. I legit have OCD and I take medication and I do pretty well most of the time. And I call it loops. I get caught in a loop. The bed bugs threw me not into a loop, but a downward spiral. Right. A roller coaster to hell is what it did.
SPEAKER_01It really was that because the drive, he's on Chat GBT. Trying to drive. Oh my God, look at the road. I've already looked all this up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Just in a list. Well, and then and then dissecting what it tells you to do. Well, will this really take care of it? Should we do this? Should we do this? And I I know him. I've been but you know, it probably is good that it was on your last day because if it had been in the middle of the trip, you would have you would have been weary. I know. So you would have had to change hotels and you'd have been out of there and you'd still have to do the same stuff. So it was it was on a changing day, anyways.
SPEAKER_01It was. And like you said, we tore that room up top to bottom. Everything else was spotless. The mattress was clean, it looked new, it was just one. But then that's how we also found out that that one was big and it was a big old pregnant female. So it could have really screwed up.
SPEAKER_04It was close. Close call. Where did the one come from? You know, makes you wonder.
SPEAKER_01Like where I found it, we had that one little like rattan chair in the room with the um cushion. And I had gotten up, I had already packed, I set my bag in the chair.
SPEAKER_04He had crawled into the bag.
SPEAKER_01No. Well and it was my launchant, which is like sealed. So I was confident it was good.
SPEAKER_02But legit where the chair was, it was it was really like a one-bedroom apartment. Right. The the hotel was. You know, it it was nice. But where that chair was, I mean, looking back, I can honestly see if you picked one up in the hallway that had came off luggage or something and walked in the room because the chair was on the corner as you walk through the kitchen. I can see how it would all happen. You know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, we would come in.
SPEAKER_02Cause it wasn't like it was on the bed over Yeah, across it was right when you come in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we came in, you would put your sweater and stuff down on that chair, and then I would put my stuff in like the seat area.
SPEAKER_04Y'all, I it yeah, that is so funny.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna have diarrhea if we keep discussing this because it just tears me up.
SPEAKER_01We're good though. I still check every single day. We are clear.
SPEAKER_02It um you would see something by now. But I will say this. Uh-huh. What will you say? I I can see how it can happen so quick and anywhere you go.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But see, like, I would have just killed the bug and not thought anything else about it.
SPEAKER_02You but see, yeah, you would have been like, it's just one. Yeah, it's fine.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I I would have looked around. Like, I do when we go to market and stuff, I look around, like I pull up the like mattress, like the edges, and I'm like, is there anything funky crawling around here? Anything?
SPEAKER_02Um, but now logically, you know, aside from my OCD, which is all mental and emotional, you know, crazy. But logic, I'm very logical person. So I told Wesley, I'm like, as much as we travel, like you know, you've come in contact before. You know, we have like internationally on planes.
SPEAKER_01Well, they call us hitchhikers for a reason. So we probably transported them somewhere before, and then they just hop off and infect someone else.
SPEAKER_04I mean, today I'm not sure y'all didn't bring it there. You never know. You never know.
SPEAKER_02But our hands are clear now. It is it is um April what seventh. Yes, somewhere around there. So far today, on April 7th, we have spent not you, I, because you're not having been with me all the time. I have spent so far this year 55 days in a hotel room.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's crazy. Yeah, from going to the markets and things.
SPEAKER_02Think about how it adds up. And then we do a week, you know, doing lives and you know.
The Bug Found Near The Bag
SPEAKER_04So, okay, so y'all find this bug and the shit just explodes basically. Hit the fan, the fan was on high, it splattered it everywhere, and y'all end up in this laundromat.
SPEAKER_02Well, first of all, what was comical was we had gone shopping. There's a um there's a designer outlet there in Fort Lauderdale. Right. So we love that. Basically, it's like getting everything 50% off. So we had done.
SPEAKER_04Dylan has on some nice new shoes today.
SPEAKER_02We had done it.
SPEAKER_01It's literally half off. Like we're never shopping anywhere else.
SPEAKER_02We had done some damage. Yeah. Well, we had brought those in because our car was in a parking garage. So we weren't gonna leave. So we had our our luggage, which is nice in and of itself, and then we had our shopping bags. Well, I I don't give a damn. Like if there's bed bugs in there, I will go buy more. So I said, I don't even want this stuff. Yeah, like we can this set it all on fire, burn it, we'll go get more. And I thought Dylan was going, he looked like if if I I think if I had said we're gonna just leave all the things.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and then he'd be like, Well, we had to rebuy mine, so you can just wait a little bit. Yeah, that's what he would say.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Really? Really? Oh my god. No, I might have said, Well, we're just gonna get one pair of shoes and some clothes to we get so so y'all had all of that in there as well.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, and what he left out, like he mentioned last week how I, you know, I'm very neat in the way that I pack, and I already don't unpack at a hotel or where we stay anywhere. I leave everything in my suitcase. Yeah, and then I use little packing cubes. And so when I get there, I set the packing cubes up, and I know in this one is my underwear and socks, this one is athletic wear, this one is t-shirts, this one is shorts, this one is sweaters. Yeah, and so I just build my outfit that way. And then since we're in a vacation club, there's a washing machine. So I washed anything before we come home.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, we are we had clean laundry with eat up with bed bow.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. Well, we d I don't think they really were eat up, it being one now looking back, but I had everything packed the way I wanted, and And we were just talking about before we started the podcast that you are the folder and you yours looks like a department store. Yes, and my packing cubes are that way. Yeah, and it's made it's meant so I can live out of that suitcase very easily.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So for him to just dump his stuff right in those dryers was very easy. I was so over it. I didn't even put all that together.
SPEAKER_02I was so mad and over it. I I literally threw it into that hot, I mean, that kiln of a dryer. I threw it in there, I took it out, threw it in the bag, and I'm like, let's go.
SPEAKER_01He was like, let's go. I said, I'm not even halfway done.
SPEAKER_02And then and he had literally sweat beads dropping off his nose, and it was running down his neck. And he said, I'm just gonna have to repack when we get to Key West.
SPEAKER_01Well, that had me all for a loop, and it was so hot, and the person in there didn't speak English, so they were no help.
SPEAKER_04And the well, and they put they put um who did you think was gonna help you in the laundromat though?
SPEAKER_01Well, I thought at a minimum, if I asked if that machine over there was gonna give me detergent, somebody could say, Yes, it works. Because it had dust on it.
SPEAKER_02But I think they had put I think that person had put like um dishwasher soap in the in the in the washer, and it was like something out of Ghostbusters. It there were suds everywhere all the down one whole side.
SPEAKER_01I'm sliding around in it, the floors are dirty, so then with the suds all out, it was just nastiness everywhere. I'm never going back.
SPEAKER_04How the hell do we not have video footage of any of this?
SPEAKER_01So that is you know I am always ready to pull out the camera and film a story. Yeah, and I almost did, but we had said going into it, we were like, we're never repeating this ever.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we were like, we're not telling anybody. And here I am. I said we're on the second podcast of telling everyone. We are telling no one.
SPEAKER_01And I'm glad too, because they would have seen a side of me that was not very becoming. It wasn't.
SPEAKER_02It would have been I I did tell your parents, I said I would have given anything if I had just taken a quick video of your quote unquote little temper tantrum from being in the poor the the the poor trashy laundromat. Oh my gosh. Because I mean, in the 70s, I guess it would have been the 70s. I can remember us having to use a laundromat.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, not always movies, they don't seem that bad.
SPEAKER_04Well, you had the real laundromat experience. That's the real deal.
SPEAKER_02And if you guys are listening, are there like high-end laundromats?
SPEAKER_04I mean, if there's sure there's some somewhere, but that is not the norm. It's not the norm.
SPEAKER_02You should open next. A laundromat, a nice one. Like where, like even like where they have like a snack bar and you can get like a um grilled cheese.
SPEAKER_01Well, in Travers Rest, there's tandem right beside it. So you can put your clothes in the dryer. It's at least clean in there, and you can walk and get a crepe in a cafe.
SPEAKER_04That is not normal. No, that is not normal.
SPEAKER_02No, the normal is you go, you can walk next door and get a crack rock.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. Let's look up Greenville laundromats and go take a little tour and take Dylan to we need to check out five laundromats.
SPEAKER_02And we'll take some laundry and decide which one he needs to do the laundry.
SPEAKER_04Then we're gonna become a series. Drop you off there. We're gonna drop you off so you can do the laundry and we'll be back. You get to pick which one.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, if I get to pick, I can pick the best one.
SPEAKER_02I have never I mean, I guess I was too young to notice. Those dryers there well, they're usually gas powered.
SPEAKER_04It's so hot. They are so hot.
SPEAKER_02I'm I'm telling you, if it had been like two degrees hot hotter, it it would have combusted.
SPEAKER_01There would be I would have no clothes left. My my new sweaters that I got before the trip, I've had to stretch out. Yeah. Because they shrunk. These shoes I'm wearing today. I had to steam and stretch out.
SPEAKER_02The sweaters that you bought are are very cute. I did I'm not knocking them at all.
SPEAKER_01Well, they're factory, they're J. Crew factory.
SPEAKER_02They're J. Crew factory. I'm not knocking that. I'm not, but the fact of the matter is they're a synthetic blend. What you're gonna get from a factory. Are they really? Yeah. But I just felt like, because I mean I had some synthetic like t-shirts and stuff. I just felt like it was melting. I feel like when I put it on, it just kind of goes. It probably isn't spots.
SPEAKER_01It was so hot.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you sit down and you hear it go from where it's like the plastic breaking apart.
SPEAKER_02The plastic crispy. You can now tell your your shirt was made from a plastic bottle.
SPEAKER_01It's recycled.
SPEAKER_02But no, the the one good thing is is there's nothing that could survive that heat.
Heat Treatment And Steaming Everything
SPEAKER_01No. Well, and then we steamed. That's what they said exterminators do. They steam. So I never knew that.
SPEAKER_04So y'all steamed after you pulled it.
SPEAKER_01We bought a steamer.
SPEAKER_04Oh dear lord.
SPEAKER_01In the laundromat.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01While the clothes were drying and steaming our bags. And then when we got back, I was over it, so we went for a walk. And then when we got back, y'all needed to cool off. We needed to decompress. And then when we got back to the room, I started unpacking and refolding and packing and steaming.
SPEAKER_04So basically, y'all spent a whole day doing laundry. Is that here?
SPEAKER_02But honestly, it was like, in in all fairness, it was probably total an eight-hour stretch. And then we were kind of over it. Okay. As long as we didn't talk about everything that you I mean.
SPEAKER_04But I know you were bringing it up because you still like.
SPEAKER_01Do you think we're okay?
SPEAKER_04Do you think we're good?
SPEAKER_01I'm like, if we're not after this, we're not gonna be. It's meant to be.
SPEAKER_04Well, Chat GPT said this. Do you think that's right? Do you think we'd be? I mean, you were even on the phone with me. Do you think I'm like, y'all are fine?
SPEAKER_01We were walking on that beach at that state park and he had chat GPT. I was like, put Fred away.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Getting on my nerves.
SPEAKER_02But it's like sitting next to someone and finding out the person next to you has lice. Yeah. But you know how many friends of mine friends had lice. Even your sister, Dylan, when she was little. Because you know, every it happens in every family.
SPEAKER_04We never had lice in any of my family.
SPEAKER_02I never got it.
SPEAKER_04Mm-mm. But three brothers, three of us, we never had lice.
SPEAKER_02Well, his his little sister never got it, but one of her friends had it and they had a sleepover. Oh, okay. So they had to go through the bug, the bed bug treatment just in case she had the lice, but she never got it. But they said, you know, your nerves are shot for weeks because you're all you know, you're like constantly itching.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was itchy from the get-go.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And he was making me mad at first because I got back from getting our coffee at the very beginning. I moved my bag because I was gonna sit in that chair and enjoy my nice little life.
SPEAKER_04Next time, just stomp the damn bug and move on. Well no, I was you.
SPEAKER_01We have to see what it was.
SPEAKER_02I was like, it was like I saw it. Oh my god, there's a bug. There's a bug. And I was like, it's just a bug.
SPEAKER_01It's like a beach road.
SPEAKER_02It looked like a stink bug. That's why they look like they look like a red stink bug. You know, they got red.
SPEAKER_01It's fine. It's just one. I'm like, no, this could become a big problem.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And then there went, then you jumped on the and he did chat GPT and said it's a bed bug.
SPEAKER_02And I'm like, no. Send me the picture. Let me see what Fred says. Because Fred's smarter than his.
SPEAKER_01And Fred was like the same program.
SPEAKER_02No, it isn't. They're different people.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no. It's the same program. It's the same code.
SPEAKER_04Shut up. Fred is. Do you think your chat GPT is different than Dylan's chat GPT? Yeah, mine's Fred.
SPEAKER_01Fred and chat are the same things.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Oh my God. That's hilarious. No. Fred, Fred is very smart. Oh, he's smarter than his. Yeah. He got the dumb version.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I got the free trial.
SPEAKER_02Mine is the paid one. Yours probably isn't quite as smart. Wouldn't that be funny if it's like yours is just faster.
SPEAKER_01That's the difference.
SPEAKER_02But wouldn't it be funny if they're like, well, if you get the paid one, they're smart. If you get the free, they're a little dumb.
SPEAKER_05Oh my gosh, that's hilarious.
SPEAKER_01Crazy.
SPEAKER_02No, it was, you know, that was very helpful though. I will say, like putting it in Chat GPT and basically do this. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, and truly, now that it is over with, I'm glad it happened because I was always paranoid of that happening and taking home bed bugs and infesting the whole house. I've always been terrified of that.
SPEAKER_03So now you know pictures of what it looked like, yes.
SPEAKER_01But now I've seen firsthand what one actually looks like. And now I know what to look for and I know what to do.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, I'm glad you have that perspective. I'm not there yet. But maybe I'll get there one day.
SPEAKER_00Oh God.
SPEAKER_01You will.
SPEAKER_02Not.
SPEAKER_01Probably not.
Snake Fears And New House Anxiety
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So um it was really funny. So along those same lines, Tina, my friend Tina that owns the Savannah store. She is petrified of snakes like I am. Oh yeah. And they bought a new house.
SPEAKER_04Out in where there's gonna be snakes.
SPEAKER_02In a country club with lots of trees and ground covers. And they've been having tree work, you know, is they've got to update the landscaping.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And she has been obsessed over snakes since the first time we went and looked at the house. I sold them the house. Yeah. And I'm like, there's there's we're in South Carolina. There are snakes. There's gonna be a snake. There's a snake. I mean, we've seen snakes on our property downtown. I mean, they're there, they're everywhere. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I've seen one in the mill. Not mine. Not your door, but the back door of the mill. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So She said yesterday she was talking to the landscaper or the tree people. She's like Um Well, have you have you seen any snakes? And she said it's a female. This like this tree person and she's like Oh, just one. It was a small little king snake. So sweet. I picked it up and played with it.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_02And I'm like, Is she ready to just get out of here? I have just said nah.
SPEAKER_04No, the good thing is this will send her over the edge at some point, and you'll get to relist the house. And you'll get she. She seemed fine with it today. So she said she's fine with it until she opens her front door and steps out, and there's one sunning on the front porch. Or there's one in the basement.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So she said, um, she said that well, they're there. Oh, they're over there. Oh, yeah, I know there's one owner over there. I'm not going over there. And I'm like, well, let's keep it.
SPEAKER_01Didn't he tell her that there was one that were two?
SPEAKER_02So there are two big king snakes. Uh-huh. And they come out and say, listen, I'm I am terrified of snakes. But but I'm gonna have snakes, and you're gonna have snakes out in a country club like that. Let it be a black snake or a king snake. Yeah, yeah. Because they're gonna keep the bad ones away. Right. So I told her, I was like, it could be worse. It could be a rattlesnake or a copperhead. I mean, you're right there at Paris Mountain. Could be a rattlesnake.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I thought rattlesnakes were only in the desert. No. We have rattlesnakes here in Greenville. They're not as common. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um, that is that's hilarious. Because you know, we had the one that came in our house last year.
SPEAKER_01I will never forgot about that. And Daniel poking it with the broom together. I was out of town.
SPEAKER_02But that was from leaving. I think that was from leaving the door open.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we had left, he had left the door open. And we leave like today, our door was open all day long.
SPEAKER_01Someone can come in. I mean, that's a normal thing with a home though, I feel like my parents always left their door open when it was warm enough.
SPEAKER_04Nice. It lets, you know, fresh air in the house. We always do that. The dogs can come in and out as they want. It's unbothered. Well, until the snake comes in.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. The the the doctor that bought my old house, she had dogs. And you know, I had a lot of snakes.
SPEAKER_04You had a lot because snakey. Because he had his whole backyard with ivy. It was like a brick patio, and then you let English ivy cover the whole thing.
SPEAKER_02It was so pretty, but there were some of the biggest damn copper heads I've ever seen. I I'm not kidding. They were like they were the big you know, copperheads usually don't get that long. Yeah. These were huge. I mean, we had mama, grandpa, grandma, great-grandma.
SPEAKER_04That's why you don't let your backyard become wooded and Englishized. Lesson learned.
SPEAKER_01I don't think I could have sat out there.
SPEAKER_04He didn't sit out there.
SPEAKER_02I did sometimes, but once I saw snakes, the kitchen. And I know what like when I I would build fires at different times. It was, you know, I went through a phase. Yeah. And um, she left the back door open with her dogs. And she was more scared of snakes than I am. Well, one just slid and this was like two months after I sold the house. And she came walking in the dining room, and there's a big old snake laying in the dining room.
SPEAKER_04Just having a good old day.
SPEAKER_02And I said, Oh my God, what did you do? She said, I went in the master bedroom and I closed the door and I got on the bed and I called for help to get the snake out. I said, You just like left the snake? Like, what if it had you wouldn't have known where it went. Yeah, it's not gonna chase you either. No, and like make keep it hemmed up in one room till it's till whoever comes to get it. Yeah. Like I'm terrified of them, but I'm gonna watch the bastard until somebody gets it. And in that case, it would probably be me getting it because I would want it out of my house.
SPEAKER_04Immediately. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Not touching it.
SPEAKER_02No, I wouldn't touch it.
SPEAKER_04Wesley will. A black snake. I mean, if it's a copperhead, I'd have to be like, there might be a dent in your floor. We're gonna chop its head off right here.
SPEAKER_02Well, and people don't see copper heads are very common here, and people do not realize that is the third most poisonous snake in in the country. Yeah, but you're fine. They won't kill they don't kill you. I mean, I think it would have to kill you, it would have to like bite you in your jugule, and I'm not even sure that would kill you. Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Rattlesnakes will. You're fine.
SPEAKER_02Just make your leg rot off. Yeah, I mean it wouldn't be pleasant, but No, I don't I mean, I think you just take a anti-venom for a copperhead.
SPEAKER_05I don't know.
SPEAKER_02You do right or rattlesnake. We had on we had a rattlesnake. The reason I always knew there were rattlesnakes when I was a kid, one a rattlesnake in Six Mile um killed one of my my grandfather's dogs and he killed the rattlesnake. Oh it bit the dog. Well, the dog, I mean the dog was dead in minutes. Minutes. Huh. But that snake did. That's crazy.
Iguanas And Florida Wildlife Shock
SPEAKER_04So so back to Key West in the laundromat, though. That was a life experience for Dylan. What else?
SPEAKER_02I feel like Well, before that happened, we didn't talk about this. I I got the heebie jeebies before we walked a lot every day long walks. One day we were walking and I could see all these people like Where is this?
SPEAKER_04Miami or Key West?
SPEAKER_02Um, Miami. Okay. And I could see them all like gathered around looking at something. I was like, something's over there. Yeah. I said, we don't need to get too close, but let's see what it is.
SPEAKER_01And it's a lizard?
SPEAKER_02Oh, like the iguana this big.
SPEAKER_01It was cool looking. I mean, I wouldn't want it near me.
SPEAKER_02But it was pretty in the picture. It was like colorful.
SPEAKER_04It what but that was like, you know, they had the freeze down there in South, you know, this in South Florida. And they were falling out of the trees, and people they were gathering them up because they're invasive. And they were at first they were like, they may relocate them or something, but it was thousands, so they, you know, they offed them.
SPEAKER_02Um they're they're their problems. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04What did they kill? All of the other, like, you know, like I guess like mice and rabbits and other things. Oh, that's that one's not even that big, but that's pretty.
SPEAKER_02Um, but if that thing got on me, I would have had a heart attack.
SPEAKER_01It was navy and orange. Yeah, I suppose I didn't know.
SPEAKER_02If that ran up my leg, that would have been all she wrote.
SPEAKER_04But it interrupts the whole ecosystem because I guess there's nothing really that eats them. So, you know, other birds and everything, it throws off, you know, the balance or something. I don't know what the whole the whole issue um was. But anyway.
Bike Rentals And Seat Pain
SPEAKER_01I also got to see Steven ride a bike for the first time. That's funny. I didn't realize that was the first time.
SPEAKER_04We haven't ridden them like in Hilton Head or Florida or anything.
SPEAKER_01I guess not. Oh we need to get bikes, but it was so funny, I have to tell you. I was cracking up because we were riding, we had the bikes for two hours.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01We got maybe 20 minutes in and my butt started hurting, and I have more cushion back there, natural cushion.
SPEAKER_02My ass hurt.
SPEAKER_01So I knew if mine was hurting, his was. So we got to a point where there was nobody around, and I said, Is your ass hurting yet? He said, Yes, get me off of here.
SPEAKER_04And he was exercising. Well, was it the bike?
SPEAKER_02I mean the cheap seat. Uh yeah. It was cheap. It was uh cruiser, it was a nice cruiser, you know, beach cruiser bike. But it was and I'm shocked Marriott bought that the cheapest seat. It was it it might as well have been a pole.
SPEAKER_01It actually that would have probably been more comfortable than I was riding behind and I could see him he'd switch over here and he'd show up with the other side, and I was like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_04My side is I know his is. That is the worst.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I would rather rent some from a bike place. Yeah, than because those were complimentary and they were, I mean, I enjoyed it, but damn.
SPEAKER_04The first, like one of the first seasons we bought in I don't, I don't I think it was just me and Daniel there, but when we bought in Hilton Head, you know, the beaches in South Carolina are different, and people will ride you, you can ride quote, ride your bike on the beach. So we had rented bikes. He wanted to do that. Okay, we had rented bikes in Hilton Head, which Hilton Head is great for riding bikes, it has bike paths everywhere. Like you can go the whole island. Keep your ass on that bike path. So Daniel and I, you know, we'd see people riding down the beach on their bike. We're like, we need to do that. So we had rented bikes, and we were down like at the neighboring, you know, development or whatever. And we're like, we'll just ride down the beach on the way back. Is this kind of like my taking the Jeep onto the beach in Hawaii? It was that was the most miserable thing I've ever done. Every time we're there and we see someone riding bikes, we're like, they're about to be, they're about to have the most miserable experience of their life. Is it because you sink? It's yes, yes. It's just like it's a lot harder than you think, even though the you know, the sand is really flat. It doesn't, it's not this you wouldn't think it would be that big of a difference from like riding on the pavement versus that, but it is.
SPEAKER_02The good ones for the beach have much bigger tires, like that.
SPEAKER_04And we had like the beach cruiser. We had beach cruiser. There's still not. It wouldn't never will I ever do that again. Never ever.
SPEAKER_02Well, if you want to have a heart attack, take a Jeep on a deserted beach in Hawaii and watch it wash it wash away. That's a good time too. Yes, that's funny. But at least with the bike, you can get off and push, you know what I mean? You weren't trapped.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I see, I was not don't do it.
SPEAKER_01He said, Oh, we should take this down on the beach. I said, No, don't we had bigger tires on there, so I was like, Well, these are bigger, maybe these will work. But also, I think it could work in Miami because the beach there is like fake. So when you first walk off of the boardwalk, there's like a flat period of beach that I think they literally like just pack it down. I mean, it's literally they bring that sand in, you know that and then you get to like the shoreline. So that you couldn't ride on, but I think you could ride on that you have fun with that. Let me know how it goes.
SPEAKER_02The beach where our our house is in Florida, yeah. Uh in the panhandle, is one of the prettiest beaches. Well, and you can't ride bikes on that.
SPEAKER_04No, but it's fluffy.
SPEAKER_02It's one of the prettiest beaches in the United States. The only other beach that I would say is comparable is like California beaches, but those aren't really as user friendly as well.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they're not the white sand.
SPEAKER_02But uh in Miami. Yeah. It uh we went out to it and it's like it's not even really I guess it's some kind of seaweed, but it's really gross.
SPEAKER_01Dirty seaweed at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_02I guess it may be the time of the year in March.
SPEAKER_04It could be, yeah, the time of the year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But it was And the sand is like not real. Like sand does not get on you like that. Like this sand, when you walk on it, you have like dust on your feet and legs.
SPEAKER_02It's like static cling to your I mean it is natural, but I do think they feel a lot in. Yeah. Um, and then because you know, they have the grass up, it's just different.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. It's just it's just different. Well, if you want to work out and to be miserable, rent your bike and go ride it down the beach in Hilton Hair.
SPEAKER_02I think we'll do that next year in Miami and I'll video. Yeah. I'll video Dylan while he rides down the beach on the bike. Cheer him on. Go. We'll get him a little battery. Bedbug go.
SPEAKER_01Go, bed bug. Come on, bed bug. We're gonna do rollerblading.
SPEAKER_04Oh. I loved a rollerblade. You have aged out of that department. Bitch, you can't rollerblade. You you turn your ankle walking across a flat floor.
SPEAKER_02That's the beauty of rollerblades. Like, up to here, you have such good support.
SPEAKER_01It really is a miracle because you turned your ankle, I don't know how many times you're just walking. Yeah. Your ankle just goes out.
SPEAKER_04I can't. Yeah, get on, get on those rollerblades. But your ass, when it when you're having ankle surgery because you broke it, you ain't laying up in the bed. We're gonna have Dylan bring your ass over here to the warehouse. I'll be at work. I I'll I will set you a bed up over there in the live area. Keep his foot elevated. How funny would that be if you not? It wouldn't be funny if you broke your ankle. I don't want that on anybody. But that's a major thing. But if you do, we're gonna turn our live set. We're gonna decorate it like it's your bedroom, and we're gonna make you come over for the lives and lay up in the bed. You're gonna be in the background with your Hey y'all, I'm here. Got my leg in traction. It's gonna be propped up slightly. We'll have a little laptop.
SPEAKER_02Oh, if in it, I guess even if I had to have surgery, we could just do a live sell from the hotel room. I mean the hospital room. Yeah don't mind these monitors. It just means I'm about to stroke out from all this. Oh my gosh, because you know that takes forever to heal from. Oh, and after I think after 50, like the whole bone healing thing. Yeah, it slows down.
SPEAKER_04When we opened the have we told the story when we opened the home store, um, the we opened the home store in 2013, and then in 2014 we moved to a larger um space. And we it had it was two levels. It had a basement. Was a nightmare. Yes, and so it had steps. The night before we were supposed to open, we were there, of course, working to the very last minute. Our, you know, dumbass is the way we do things. But anyway, um, and Dyl uh, Dylan, Steven turned his well, I was walking down the step, down the stairs.
SPEAKER_02I was going downstairs. I didn't turn it, but I was going downstairs carrying something, and I went to step again, or I missed the step and came down on my right foot. And like within 30 seconds, it was like double the size. We both were like, Yeah, we were both like, oh shit, I just broke my leg. Like, we were both like, it wasn't like he didn't even look at it and go, Oh, you're all right. He was like, I'll drive you to the hospital. I'm like, drive me to the hospital. You can't drive me anywhere. We gotta get a store open. I was like, he was like, How are you gonna go to the hospital? I'm like, I'll drive with my left foot. Yeah, you should there should have been a video of that because not only did I go to one ER, I went to two. Because I went to the main hospital and it was like a wait and it was like the laundromat experience for you, and I was like, hell no. And so I get on the phone and I call the emergency room on the east side of town, and they're like, We have no one. I'm like, put me down.
SPEAKER_04I'm coming.
SPEAKER_02And I'm driving over there with my left foot, and I'm I had bought a new um, I had a it was brand new uh Toyota Forerunner.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And I was like, you know, I would go up to because you're I bet you came to a red light and you would just and and by then my I mean I couldn't step on my foot. And this was probably started at like 11 o'clock at night. Like it was late. Oh, of course it was.
SPEAKER_02And we my foot was like, it was like by this time, it was this color black, it was this big. I'm like, oh my God, I've got now it's broken. I have to have some kind of damn surgery. Yeah. So I go in there and they're like taking me in for x-ray, and I'm like, oh my God. Yeah. And he the doctor comes in, he said, uh, your foot is not broken. And I said, Oh, thank God. I said, I've got a store to open. I said, next week I have to be at an owner's McDonald's owners convention in Florida. I don't have time. He was like, whoa, whoa, whoa. You would have been way better off if you had broken your foot. This is a whole different healing process. I was like, all I heard is I don't have to have surgery. I'm good.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I would not, they tried to give me a boot. I was like, I'm not wearing that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I wore a shoe on the left foot, and I wore what did I wear on the left foot. I can't remember, but you just socks, I think. But I couldn't, and then I went to the owner's convention, and that convention floor is like 250,000 square feet. You hobbling along. And they said when I went, you know, I was they were like, Well, you can have a golf cart, you know. Well, the only people that did that were like 90 and above. Not a little scooter. No, that golf cart. Oh, a golf cart. Golf cart. Like, oh. Yeah, electric golf carts. And I said, No. And I walked around with that foot. But it did take forever. It was it was one of those bruises that turned black and purple, blue, and then it would get that ugly yellow, and it healed. Listen, all I heard is you don't have to have surgery. I'm good. That was I was like, oh here we go. He was Wesley was shot. He knew he he was like, it's broken. Mm-hmm. That was that was it. Good times.
SPEAKER_04And I'm like, here we are trying to open a store typical typical. And here you are with your ankle. And now you want to get on damn roller.
SPEAKER_02You know, I've gotten hurt, I think, every time we've opened a store. I don't know if you remember the last store. The last store we opened was right before we met.
SPEAKER_04In 2019, when we moved the home store.
SPEAKER_02We moved a we had a cabinet that we were moving out. Well, and you know, we Wesley and I did all the work ourselves. How I did it, I have no idea. You'll do it again. It's fine. And so we're carrying this cabinet out, and we were trying to we the dumpster opened up, but we still had to swing it enough to throw it up in the dumpster to the dumpster. Well, we when we did this and went back, it had a screw sticking out about four inches.
SPEAKER_04It caught my stomach. Yeah, but you had enough, you had enough fluff. But it cut me. It did. It was oh, I forgot about that. There's not a scar.
SPEAKER_02I think there is. It was bad. It was four. It was I probably needed a tetanus shot.
SPEAKER_04I didn't get it. You're fine. Oh my gosh, that's crazy. I forgot about that. You do tend to Oh, if I can get her. Well, we did the garden store since then.
SPEAKER_02I don't know if I couldn't walk. Remember from the uh doing the floors?
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, we did the floor in there and you could. Oh gosh. It's about time to do a new store. You know, you get the itch every so often.
SPEAKER_02And you know, you forget you forget what but getting up and down, yes, off the ground. It was I think I think that's the worst. Yeah. That that's the most uncomfortable, painful thing I've ever done.
SPEAKER_04When we did the last floor, you said this is it. Next time we can't hire someone, we can't paint the concrete. We can't open the store. We can't hire to have the floor done.
SPEAKER_02I can't do it. It's not in me. I was like, okay. Guess you're aging out. It's all right. It's fine. It happens to the best of us.
SPEAKER_04So next week, speaking of 50 nights away or however many you've had, next week, just so y'all know who's listening. And if you don't have our app for the nested fig yet, you need it. Um, which, if you don't have our app, go to the app store for your phone, tablet, Android, or Apple. We are there. Search the Nested Fig, get the app, and you can watch us live. But next week, y'all are going to Atlanta.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_04Back for another adventure. Uh, what if y'all get there and find a bed bug in Atlanta? I'm out.
SPEAKER_01Live week canceled.
SPEAKER_02Y'all. I'm taking a gas can and a and a book of matches. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Do you have your the hotel booked yet this time?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Where are y'all standing? My gosh. So evidently, you know, there's always something going on in Atlanta. And it's the weirdest days. Yeah. So last time, you know, it was Tuesday and Wednesday nights were like$1,200 a night at the Marriott Marquee.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So randomly I found I looked on the Ritz Carlton and then I they had a special. So I got the whole week for like$1,800.
SPEAKER_04Which was great. And see, they sometimes you can get better deals because they don't have the convention center. So if there's not something huge going on. Right.
SPEAKER_02So I got a deal already from um the same thing. They had something going on. So I went to the Ellis, which is an autograph Marriott. It's supposed to be nice. It's supposed to be nice. But I booked it like weeks and weeks ago. Like Yeah. Four or six weeks ago. I don't know. Probably six weeks ago when I kind of knew the date. And oh my gosh, I am so glad. So I got the whole week for$1788. That's good. Monday night now, because I had to go in and add Friday. I got Friday night for$179. Monday and Tuesday nights at the at the LS Hotel are$1,200 per night.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I was like, uh glad that wasn't Friday night because we'd have been having to move.
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh. So y'all are this is April, just so we can have dates, because you know, some people listen later. April 13th through um, y'all are coming back now on the 18th. On the 18th. So y'all are gonna be in Atlanta all next week. Um, which means I guess we need to record a podcast before y'all leave. Um we can need to record one on like Sunday. Um, but anyway, uh, and y'all are doing live sales. Y'all are going to the market, to the bag warehouse a week of market lives.
SPEAKER_02We're doing auctions. We're doing um the leather, the Italian leather place that have the um nice belts that look like the air mask. You said they got some in. You special ordered them. Yes.
SPEAKER_04So they have those for you? Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and we're doing moistenite. Mm-hmm. And we're doing a nighttime later. Yeah, we're doing a nighttime moistenite because we have so many people that can't be on earlier, so I think that's gonna be better. We're doing a regular jewelry live. We're doing some doormats that you and I picked out. Yes. These are really cool.
SPEAKER_04They are, yeah. They are maybe a nice quick little live, but it's such a fun thing, especially for spring.
SPEAKER_02And it's like the the center piece is interchangeable, so you can change it out for every season in the doormat. Yes. Without changing your whole doormat, it's just a little centerpiece.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And y'all are going to the bag warehouse and then y'all will find other things along the way. Oh, yeah. I can't wait to watch, and I'll have the whole week off. Yeah. Take some time. I know. I think literally I'm planning on it now because I just, well, while y'all were going to Miami, I worked here literally every day. I got here at the warehouse, not just doing the normal like lives, but like work. So the warehouse has gotten caught up and organized. They've been or like it's gotten in a really good place. So I got this like on track. And then this past week, I've been redoing our website.
SPEAKER_01And today it looks so good. And it looks so good.
SPEAKER_04I saw the videos like on the I just launched it today or yesterday. So it's all brand new website. I got our wholesale section back up and running. I got subscriptions back up and running. So you can now do the subscriptions back to Tyler or um Twine products, that sort of thing. Which that's we've we've been making changes over the last year. So slowly some of these pieces had fallen off when we redid like our app. We couldn't do this. When we redid this, we couldn't do that. I've gotten it all back in place. So I think next week I'm gonna be in a good place to just like chill. I mean, I'll still work, but you know. Good. I know. I feel like I should just go to Atlanta with y'all, but I'm not going to. But I feel like I I you know, I I there's that part. I love market. I love getting ready for the lives. I love looking for stuff. I, you know, so I'm like, well, I'm that way.
SPEAKER_01Even when y'all go, like I'll typically go for a few days here or there, but until I get there, I'm like, what do we do? It's boring here. Yeah.
Reviews Sharing And Goodbye
SPEAKER_04But then we only have maybe a week in between, and then we go to the high point furniture market, right? Uh I need to get that scheduled out. But and we'll do lives from there. But yes, I'm always like FOMO when y'all are at the market, even though I love that y'all go. And it's a different mix when y'all go to buy certain things. Uh yeah, it is. But I'm always I wish y'all could end up going, we've said this a bunch of times, when there's one of the mini shows, and I could go like scout different little things. But we need to do that. We do. All right. Well, let's pull this baby over. You got anything else this week? Thanks for joining us. I think so. Dilly. Yes. Thank you, little bed bug. Simpson. We didn't get into the um topic that Steven calls you Simpson, like you're the butler.
SPEAKER_01He says it, but I ignore it. You didn't.
SPEAKER_02This morning I was up at seven, and I made it.
SPEAKER_04I need to order you a bell like we have over in the live area. A bell. No, that little ding ding ding dang.
SPEAKER_01We made his own coffee this morning.
SPEAKER_03No, you made it inconvenient so that he had to get a bell would be really nice to have. It would.
SPEAKER_01Simpson. No, I still get his, but I just do it after I've had mine.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. After you've had your coffee and yogurt, you'll treat him to do that. I do do that sometimes to Daniel. He'll be like in there. I'm like, can you please bring me the coffee? But normally he's out and about already up at that time. But anyway, all right, we're gonna pull this baby over. Remember to leave us a review wherever you're listening to our podcast, but only if it's a good one. Don't leave a bad one. That's right. And don't forget to share us with your friends. We always need new listeners. If you have any. If you have any. Don't forget to share us with your friends. We always need new listeners. And we'll see you next week. Bye. Bye y'all.
