Statin Side Effects And Recovery
SPEAKER_03All we know is it's always a fun ride. Jump on in, it's shits and giggles here today. You're gonna quit calling me that. I'm giggles. Steven is shits. So shits and giggles, we're a good duo. Been around forever. That's what people are gonna start calling me. It's so true. So the other day when we were at the High Point Furniture Market, um I was I called Daniel. This trip, he made it through. We did end up skipping last week's episode because I had allergies and my voice was terrible. Y'all wouldn't have wanted to listen to that. Um, but anyway, when we were at the High Point Furniture Market, I called um Daniel just checking in or something. I was like, what are you doing? And he was like, oh, just listening to shit talk. You didn't tell me that. I know, I forgot. I was like, that is funny. That is, we need to uh have a I guess that's a segment, shit talk because Steven, sorry. But we did make it through. We made it through. You have gone all week without or two weeks without any incidences, right? Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Yes, and I yeah, my all my symptoms went away of after I started the new medication. So Okay.
SPEAKER_03So you got back on track?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they it you said it within two weeks it lasted six days. Okay.
SPEAKER_03So you've gotten back on track and you're still on the new medicine.
SPEAKER_00I felt like I I truly well, you know, I told you because I didn't realize it because I'd never had a reaction to a medicine. And I told you that week, I said, I just feel like I have COVID, but I know I don't. Like I hadn't been around anyone. Well, you saw a statin? Is that a second statin? First one never bothered me. This one almost pushed me over the edge. I mean, woke up and my legs hurt, felt like they had been ran over by a truck in the night and you couldn't go back to sleep or anything. Yeah. And then like just driving down the road, I can't even describe it. Like driving to the warehouse, I felt like, oh, I just feel like I have the flu or COVID. But it was that just an internal sick. So all of it went away within six days. Thank God. Well, that's good. Yeah. Well, back on track. But I can see how people can't take statins if you guys are out there. And uh I because I've had a lot of friends that are like, oh, I can't take a statin. I'm like, really? It never bothered me.
SPEAKER_03But I I get it. He'll have a new symptom before long, but you know, we're gonna keep patching them up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I gotta keep on going.
SPEAKER_03It's funny, speaking of that and things not bothering you. There's several things since I've known you. We met in 2000, what, eight, nine, two thousand nine. Um, that you always like kind of poked fun at people about that now have come back and you're like, Oh, I shouldn't have done that all these years. Like, you never understood people with back problems.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, my mother had a um, and today's my mother's birthday. Oh I didn't tell you that, did I? No. Um, I did. So I celebrated her birthday and I I dusted her cabinet with all of her stuff. Oh, that's good. Um, so my mother had a very bad back. And my grandfather had a very bad back, and my uncle had a bad back, and I was like, as a kid, I'm like, these people are full of shit. Like they I didn't understand it at all.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then I have a horrible back. And now you get like I get it now, and I'm like, oh.
SPEAKER_03Well, and it's something if you ever have a back, even just simple muscle or anything, you know, it's so debilitating. And if you if you can get it fixed or to not hurt, that's when you're like, oh, I got a bad back, I better you gotta tell yourself, I got a bad back, I better be careful, because you don't want to go through the and I didn't for years.
SPEAKER_00Like I would it would heal and I would keep then I would remote stuff.
SPEAKER_03Well, you know, I went through a horrible back incident. You had a ruptured disc, I think. I did. Um I had a ruptured discussion. And I was ever so close to having surgery. And then I ended up I mean, this went on for years because I was like, I don't want to have surgery. Two years. Yeah. And it was so it finally got so bad, I was like, I gotta have surgery or whatever. Um and I went and had the you know, the scan and all that. And I was like, they were supposed to schedule the surgery, and in the process, I also like I don't know who started telling me. Different people started telling me, like, well, you can't wear flip-flops. So I made sure I stopped wearing flip-flops and I got good shoes. Oh, I think that's when I got a new mattress and did that. And you've got really flat feet and and you can't wear flip-flops. Yeah. So, and uh what else did I do? Uh I went to the chiropractor, just the joint. I didn't even do that, but that really helped too. And I know there's you know all kinds of mixed reviews on that. I don't still go continuously or anything like, but I did go like every week for maybe like a month, and I could tell instantly when I walked out that it had relieved the pressure. And I guess doing that and then adjusting my shoes and the new mattress, it relieved the pressure enough that it ended up healing. I didn't have enough surgery, yeah. But if I find myself in that situation again, I will have surgery immediately.
SPEAKER_00You know.
SPEAKER_03I didn't I I don't have to bear it.
SPEAKER_00The worst mind ever was you were not here. I forget where you were. Yeah, where was I don't know. You were gone somewhere, and I would I managed to work, but it got so bad for like several days I couldn't even work.
SPEAKER_03I feel like maybe we were in Florida and you were working and then you were going to Hawaii. Oh, yeah. Was it back to back?
SPEAKER_00No, I don't know. It's longer than that. But I couldn't put my right foot on the damn floor. I couldn't drive a car. You were all joking. It was a mess. But you know, got that. I I hope it's never like that. That is very debilitating.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. What else did you oh about people you used to say say, we are bumping into all kinds of shit on here that they'll be able to hear. Um when you had McDonald's, the employees would be like, Oh, my blood sugar's dropping, I gotta go have a break. And now mine does. And now Steven would be like, oh, hold on, I mean I gotta get something real quick.
SPEAKER_00Because I mine will like completely bottom out. And only because I know for a fact I I'd check it. Yeah. But well, theirs wasn't bottoming out. I mean, these were these were lazy people that wanted ice cream. And who am I? I mean, if you tell me you're having like a low sugar attack, I'm gonna give you an ice cream. Yeah. Like I'm not gonna say, well, please go into a coma. I'm not that kind of person. But yeah, no, that that was oh, the things that happened.
High Point Market Trends Report
SPEAKER_03All right, let's get into let's talk about get it out of the way, because I know people always love hearing about our market adventure. We just got back from the high point furniture market and the trends that we saw. It was a great market.
SPEAKER_00I feel like it was a it was a very good market. Um, spring market's always the best, in my opinion.
SPEAKER_03That's when there's the most new introductions and changes. But I will say, trending-wise colors is green, any green is hot. Blue, I feel like, is coming in with the green. But overall, it is still, which we've mentioned for the last, you know, we'll mention it for about however many years, and then it'll start to change, going even moodier, dirtier, brown, earthier, but even more in like a like we were in one showroom and you were like, I feel like it's fall in here. But that's the colors that are trending, like terracotta or like a mustard, a rust, very muddy, greens, earth, earth, think earth, blues, greens, browns. But anything earthy. And I feel like you're seeing more and more like leathers, not just in like upholstery, but in decor. Like leather straps on things or leather, you know, which again is very Ralph Lauren.
SPEAKER_00Right. And I hate when people wear that out, but it is.
SPEAKER_03I mean, that's the way to sum it up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's some that's what everybody oh, you know. Antiques. Oh god. Antiques are huge right now. Here's the downside.
SPEAKER_03Well, we talked about this when they started a couple of years ago. We started talking about vendors were even reproducing antique looks, but antiques are having their moment again, and you know what that means? Expensive. Expensive. Cause we used to go could go there and get the antique pieces for like nut I mean, very affordable. Not now. Mm-mm.
SPEAKER_00I mean, in like the antique session section at market, like I told I told our designers, I was like, don't even kid yourself that we're gonna buy anything in here and resell it. Yeah. Unless it's a special design client. But this is this is retail. This isn't wholesale.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because you can't afford there's no, I mean, it would be a joke. It would be so re overpriced, I would be embarrassed to try to sell it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's true. Speaking of that, we did have um some employees with us, one of our des our manager from the garden store and designer from the home store. We kind of joked about, which I think they ended up listening to because they said we got to be on our best behavior because we joked about how people annoy us when we go to market. They did great. And the franchisees owners were there too.
SPEAKER_00Everybody did, everybody got a gold star. I know.
SPEAKER_03They didn't get on your nerves too.
SPEAKER_00I didn't cuss them out not one time. None of them.
SPEAKER_03That's funny. None of them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No, they they it was great. They were a big help. Um, it was a good time. I think the spring market is the market to to take employees. The fall market. Or the spring market. Yeah. Fall is we've got too much going on. Yeah, they've got too much going on at the stores.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's when it always ends up. Um, that's why I didn't go to the last one because it was right at the same time we were resetting the stores for Christmas. Because then the timing was weird, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it's not a it's not as an important of a market. It just isn't. I mean, I don't want to miss it because I I do like to get in the furniture orders because you might have a you will have a gap, but it's not, it's it's it's not as new.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But yeah, I was glad that they, you know, you didn't have a complete meltdown. I'm so thankful Steven was there because he handles this. Like, I would be like, okay, I'll see y'all in a little bit. And I would just go, because you know, we've done market for so long. Like, I can zip through it. And so I was going ahead and like looking at stuff or doing an order or whatever. And um I would circle back around in an hour, and y'all were like, you know, just a few feet down the hallway from where I left you. But you know But y'all got major things done that do take time.
SPEAKER_00And they they they hung with it. I was like, okay, they gotta go. They didn't complain about the moving and a shaking. I told them, I said, you know, you can stop and eat, just know I'm not stopping. Yeah. Like you'll have to just catch up. Right. Because I mean, I'm not going to tell someone you can't eat or drink, for goodness sakes. I mean But you really can't. I'm just gonna But I can't stop because we've got so much to get done. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And we managed it, and it was good. Um, so what else did you notice? Did you notice any other big trends?
SPEAKER_00Um nothing new. I mean, there's a lot of marble, a lot of alabaster, a lot of um antique brass. Mm-hmm. Um nothing like that. I did notice in a few showrooms. I don't know what this means because like painted um high gloss lacquered furniture kind of had I'm not gonna say went out of style because it's always nice.
SPEAKER_03It was hot, hot.
SPEAKER_00Hot, hot, and then it was not.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I saw more uh painted furniture. I feel like maybe coming back because you know yeah, we went, you know, to it used to be all painted, yeah. And then we went to a lot of stained. Right. And I'm seeing custom painted. We added a new line to um our home store, which I absolutely love. And it's kind of um it's very nice quality and it's a it's a lot of vintage reproduction, but they have they offer a line that is all custom painted furniture, and you can order it in any any color you want.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And that's that's it's kind of nice. Like if you're doing a little a little girl's room or little boys room, you need, you know, your you know, you have this plaid, you want the specific paint. Right.
SPEAKER_03To match it up. Yeah. I mean Yeah. I'm trying to think what else I saw. Still a lot of animal, like hide taxidermy, and um like Again, this has been my style for 30 years.
SPEAKER_00So I'm just back in.
SPEAKER_03You are finally back in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I go out. I mean, it's never out of style. No. But I go where it's not as on trend. Right now, right now, my my look is hot. So it's it works out for me. But that is, yeah, that's always been my look. It has been. Dead animals and old stuff.
SPEAKER_03Old rugs, yeah, antiques. But you know it makes it so homey though.
Rugs And Refreshing The House
SPEAKER_00Layered, yeah, it makes it cozy. Yeah. Yeah, definitely, definitely makes it cozy. Um, so and I was excited. I got a rug. So um we have a uh a man that we've worked with closely with rugs for many years. Oh yeah. Um lives on the west coast, actually lives on an island.
SPEAKER_03Oh, really?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. And he is so good, he is so good to us. And I found this rug that was perfect for our kitchen. Mm-hmm. But it was three inches too wide. He packed his one of his employees, which is the nicest man, packed that rug into his suitcase, took it to Turkey, yes, had it cut down, brought it back, and gave it to me. That's crazy. And it looks like I saw it in Dylan's um video.
SPEAKER_03It looks like cut down. No, not at all. Uh uh. Well, that's why he sent it there, because he's like, no one here do it right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So they'll do it. He said it would have been so expensive to have it done properly here. Um, so he took it there and and uh it was free. So that was fun getting that. Um what else? What else did you you ordered some new chairs for yourself?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I ordered chairs and I got a table for entry.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh. I picked that out.
SPEAKER_03I did a great job. You did, thank you. You were on the scout. Um, so I'll get some new stuff. I gotta get my house refreshed, you know. It's been 10 years since we moved there. Mm-hmm. You have to do I just needed a couple of new pieces here and there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That's all. I think I'm going to um add drapes. Not in the great room, but in my in our master bedroom. Yeah. I think soften it up a little bit. Yeah. I think it's time to add some panels. But I think I'm gonna do on the I think I'm gonna do them like maybe on the outside window, so they're they're inset to create m create even more dimension. Rather than doing the drapes on the inside, I'm gonna do them like on the wall. Do you know what I mean? No. The windows are set back like so deep.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so rather that's almost 18 to 24 inches deep before the window. But you wouldn't put them inset like that. You would put them on the wall.
SPEAKER_00You could. You could some yeah, but that wouldn't the the the shades are inset, but I'm gonna do the drapes. The drapes should be on the outside though, because then they'd have to stop at the window. I'm gonna go all the way to the floor. Yeah. And I'm gonna take them all the way up.
SPEAKER_03To the top. Yeah, on each, yeah. That's how I would do it.
HOA Politics And Master Deeds
SPEAKER_00I think it's gonna look good. I think it's gonna look good. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So I didn't tell you the latest. What oh Lord. What is the latest? The HOA at the mill.
SPEAKER_03Oh, where you live.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I don't know who I don't know who listens to us that lives there. Because we have I know we have some people that live there that are our online customers and in store customers. So I don't know if they listen to this or not, but you know what? I don't care. I kinda hope they are because they need they need some they need some guidance here.
SPEAKER_03But wait, aren't you on the board of the HOA?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Okay. Well, I gotta hear the situation. We can't and and listen, I would love to not be on the board, but but I mean, that is a such an old property. I mean, it's it's going on 150 years old. It has to be maintained, and you have to maintain a large sum of cash at all times. Right. Because you never know. So if you let your reserve go too low and then do assess it could be catastrophic.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So that's why I stay involved. And I care about it, you know. I do I care about the building and the property. Um, but you know, there are always though you're you're gonna have one or two people Oh, that are gonna just jack up the whole damn thing. They're the people no one likes. So if you're listening out there, don't be that person.
SPEAKER_03They don't know that they're that person, I guess.
SPEAKER_00Cause how do you not know? We have two. Mm-hmm. We have two, two women. No one likes them. In the middle of it all. Always stirring the pot. No one likes them. And I'm like, do you know that no one likes you? Do you realize that you just annoy? Oh, do tell. Keep it everyone. I hope someone's listening. I I do too. And I I hope they stop me and ask me about it. I'm gonna go, and it it it is you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03If you were if you were wondering, I just wanted to confirm it it is you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So the latest is just so you know, and this is kind of information you guys need when you're buying a house, even if it's not a condo, if it's a town home or a single family home that is in a hoa, this is important. So before you buy in any HOA, country club, um, subdivision, anything, read the master deed. The master deed is more important than other rules and regulations.
SPEAKER_03Because you can't really change the master deed, right?
SPEAKER_00You can, but it's difficult. Very, very difficult. So in our building we have one hundred and four condos. It's a huge building.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00And so we can rent have thirty rental units out of the build building at one time. That is in the master deed. And the reason that was in the master deed is first of all, when you buy a property, you want that option because you never know what kind of things could come up. Right. Work, you might have to go to work for two years somewhere. You rent it. You want that option. But at the same time, if you are in a condo building or townhomes, you cannot go beyond 30% rental.
SPEAKER_03Or the bank won't finance.
SPEAKER_00You can't get a conventional mortgage. Right. So like the condos that we own in Hilton Head, you cannot obtain a conventional mortgage there. I'm not saying you can't get a mortgage. I'm saying you can't get a conventional. So you're not going to get as as good of an interest rate. It's just not as easy. Right. So that's why that is there. Okay. So the latest is um one of the busybodies wants to change the master deed. Oh Lord. And just so you know, when you go to do that, you have to refer to the Master Deed rules around changing the Master Deed. And it takes, and I mean it's a simple equation, and I don't I I'm not a genius, but you know, if you've already got 30 units rented, we don't have that many rented. We only have like twenty-four. Right. But still, those owners are never going to agree to do away with rentals.
SPEAKER_03What it what is someone wanting to do? They're wanting to do away with rentals. Oh, do away with it altogether. How dumb is that? Why? Why do they want to do that?
SPEAKER_00Because they don't that renters bother them. Well, you shouldn't have bought there because that's not something new. Exactly. And do you want do you know what that would do to property values? Right. So not only do um would the majority of the owners have to agree, then you have to go to all of the banks or mortgage holders, whoever owns the mortgages. 51% of those people also have to agree. Right. So what does that tell you? It is not possible. Right.
SPEAKER_03It's not going to be possible.
SPEAKER_00Move on. Move on.
SPEAKER_03Sell your place and move. Sell and move. But it's not like y'all are getting, you know, the the rent's not cheap. So the quality of renter is not bad.
SPEAKER_00No. And if it's a problem, w we can address it. Right.
SPEAKER_03I mean And it's not like you can you can't Airbnb it. You can't, no. So it's not like it's something like that. They just want to be a pain in the ass. Always.
SPEAKER_00You know, it's always something else. Something, just a needle, needle, needle, needle. But I'm convinced. Mm-hmm. And then the two people that do it, I feel so bad for their husbands.
SPEAKER_01Oh god.
SPEAKER_00Can you imagine being married? You know, they're just like, oh Lord help me. And that was just the what I was bringing up was just an example. But I mean, do you realize that you that like that people in the community genuinely do not like you because you just are always into stir in the pot. Into something. What about dance?
SPEAKER_03What about why you know, and I want to just say, you know, sometimes it's just so funny because I've been with you and you've put someone on speaker phone when they're just like on about the stupidest thing in the world. And that's not one that I'm speaking of.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That's that is not one of the people I'm speaking of. And you've heard that one multiple times.
SPEAKER_03I'm like, is she still she's still going on about this? Yeah. Or I'll be like, now what she's on. And it's not even her. Oh God. No, no. Crazy. That's insane. That's why I love just living on the farm.
SPEAKER_00If we ever move, it's gonna be on like a hundred acres. You're not gonna. I I promise you, you will not be able to see my home from any row. You will be people will be like, I wonder what is back there. Yeah. That's and you're not gonna find out. That's funny. Because I'm like be on good. And I do, I do listen, I love where we live. We have so much privacy. Look, we never run into like I left the building today. I didn't see one person. Right. I mean, I have we basically have our own little slide in, slide out entrance. We we we have it really good. It's so quiet, so private. But I'm like, I would never the I think it would be worse because you know, we have friends that live in subdivision, like upscale, fancy subdivisions. They have no privacy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And people, well, I saw you had cars at your house. Did y'all have a party?
SPEAKER_03See, that's the kind of shit that I couldn't deal with. I literally cannot deal with that sort of thing. We've never lived anywhere. The only place like our um And these are multimillion dollar houses. Our Florida house cottage has an HOA. But they are the most low-key, and there's no one, I guess because so much of the area's rentals, there's no one there like bothering you or doing anything.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what you would have to do for the HOA to come, you know, I never and I deal with the HOA with our house in Florida. Literally, the only time I get an email is just reminding me to pay HOA dues because we pay them quarterly. Yeah. And I just go in and pay nothing. Nothing. And you know, they take care of the yard, the sprinklers, everything. That's the kind I like.
When HOAs Go Too Far
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That's the only place. But other than that, we've never lived in a HOA, but I could not handle someone. You know, some of them get real picky, like your mailbox needs to be replaced.
SPEAKER_00Well, Hilton Head can be a pain at times.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Hilton Head condo can be a pain, but it's but all of Hilton Head's that way. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, I couldn't live there. Because I would they would I mean I would be fine. I mean, I threw away something, I can't remember what it was one time in the dumpster. It was I don't know what it was. It might have been a vacuum cleaner, whatever it was.
SPEAKER_03Like an umbrella or something.
SPEAKER_00I threw it away and they tracked me down on camera. I mean, there are 400 condos on that property. 400. How the hell did you sit there and figure out who I was? Yeah. And then they fined you. Called me on the phone. You can't do that. You gotta remove that or it's a hundred dollar fine. And I was like, okay, just go ahead and send me that fine. I'll get that paid today. Yeah. And he was like, uh, but uh, and I was like, it's a hundred dollar fine, right? Yeah. I said, I'm good. Thank you. Yeah, I'm good.
SPEAKER_03I was like, I am I did something like that one time too. I can't remember what it was about. I feel like they did the same thing. I don't know. I can't remember, but mine was like a$50. And I was like, just send me the bill.
SPEAKER_00It's like, I'm not, I'm not digging that out of the trash. And then where do you take it? And now y'all listen. I love Hilton Head, I love Hilton Head Island, it's beautiful, but they're crazy.
SPEAKER_03But it's it's preserved its beauty, though.
SPEAKER_00So But now this is excessive. Now, if you and I are taking furniture down there, we do own a furniture store. Right. We rent a U-Haul, and then we're like, oh God, we just need to take this sofa to the dump, to the landfill. You can't do it. Oh, you can't?
SPEAKER_03Uh-uh. Who has to do it?
SPEAKER_00You can't you can do it. You can't do it in any commercial vehicle.
SPEAKER_03They consider a U-Haul a commercial vehicle.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, I rented it, but you still just can't go and do it. You have to have to have a license like a permit to take it, but it has to be in like an unmarked private vehicle.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's the dumbest. How dumb is many rentals? And I called them and I was like, Do you know how many properties on this island are rentals? This is absurd. Yeah. Way too much time on their hands. And I get preserving, I get not having the big McDonald's signs, Walmart signs. I get all that.
SPEAKER_03But also, you're on a freaking island. It's not like someone from the outside is coming to your island to I mean, it's so far out of the way. It's not like someone's coming from Savannah, Georgia to dump their trash in Hilton Head.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's like, and or even Bluffton. Oh, I think I'm gonna drive out to Hilton Head and take my trash today.
SPEAKER_03So why is it even that seems like such a dumb issue?
Vacation Rental Fixes And Appliances
SPEAKER_00It's so dumb. Like my family was there and they um they called me and they said, you know, the the microwave is just not heating. And I said, We'll buy a new one. Yeah. I'll Venmo you. I was like, don't throw that in the dumpster. And you can't take it. They don't they don't have a permit to take it away. They put it in their car and drove it, they drove it back to the upstate to throw it away. That's funny.
SPEAKER_03It's irritating. But yeah. So I guess good to know because well, Daniel and I went through this when we were just there last week. We were only there for 48 hours, literally. And the we thought about getting a new refrigerator. It works fine, but okay, this is the funny thing about rentals, too. Okay, something happened, I guess, to the light bulb cover in the refrigerator. And so the light bulb was kind of dangling. It's okay, honestly, y'all. It's been like that for like a year. It just wasn't, it didn't bother me much. I mean, it's not okay, this is an economy vacation rental. You know what I'm saying? It's just the light bulb. It just ended a little bit.
SPEAKER_00It's economy. It's not like our house in Florida.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And do you know though, all of a sudden, like the last five guests, literally, it's been like this for a year. And I'm not joking. The last five guests that have checked in sent me a picture of it and said, the light bulb's hanging down in the refrigerator, you know, whatever. And I was like, good lord, we got to fix this when we get there. None of them were like negative about it. It was more like letting you know or like that we didn't do this. But I've never had anyone do that until literally the last five people. So I was like, we got there and I was like, okay, I mean, it does look bad. And I was like, maybe we should just get a new refrigerator or whatever. And but then we couldn't get one delivered in time. And then I was like, well, if we go get it, we can't discard this refrigerator. Oh no. And we can't haul the refrigerator all the way back to Greenville. It was just a so anyway, I ended up rigging it up. So it looked like I got a new light bulb, a smaller one, tucked it all in and stuck it up to the ceiling, and it it looked fine. So we'll we'll keep it going for now. I mean, just let it let it ride. Which is also funny because I was going through my photos on my phone and deleting some old ones, and I had saw that in like two, let's see, in 2023, I had written down the refrigerator dimensions. Even back then, I was like, maybe we need a new refrigerator still. Here we are.
SPEAKER_00Make sure. I don't know if you remember this from the one I sold. Mm-hmm. Because these are these are nice little condos. They're economy. They're not like a little kitchenette. It's a kitchen. Yeah, but I mean it's just a little small. Yeah. Um when I bought it, it had the stainless appliances. Well, I didn't realize because my I have stainless appliances at home. Mine are real stainless. I didn't realize most of those refrigerators you get are not real stainless. Oh, yeah. They're fake stainless. Yeah. Well, someone put something on there and it just oxidized the whole, the whole refrigerator was like rust.
SPEAKER_03Girl, we get them white. We ain't getting no stainless nothing or stainless look.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'll never do that again.
SPEAKER_03We went and we did go and look at one at Home Depot, which was like the exact same one. And I Daniel's like, Oh, you don't want to get stainless? And I'm like, no, because the kitchen is small, the cabinets are white, and all the other appliances are white. Like, I feel I know white isn't his own trend, but they're more practical because it does all fade together. Like it, you know, you got it doesn't jump out. Yeah, because everything's lined up. You got your sink, your dishwasher, your oven, your microwave, your refrigerator, it's all white. So anyway. But we didn't end up getting one, but because I was like, we're gonna have to call and get it delivered and picked up because we can't get rid of it. Going back to that.
SPEAKER_00So the big thing is when you move into a neighborhood, read, read, read, read. You don't want to look over your master deed. It's just uh really important. And if if rentals bother you, you know.
SPEAKER_03And don't go into a neighborhood thinking you if you don't like something, it ain't gonna change. So don't you go change it. Right. So don't go in with like, well, I don't like this, but we'll get this change. You ain't going to. And it changed, it ain't going to. And then people aren't gonna like you anyway. That's just it. You know?
SPEAKER_00You're gonna be the hated person.
SPEAKER_03Right. And if you think you're there's one in every neighborhood, you know what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_00Every even if you're not in a subdivision. Because you know, on my old street, do you remember that my old street, which actually was a subdivision, but from like a subdivision from the early 1900s. So we didn't have a HOA.
SPEAKER_03I wouldn't call that a subdivision. It is a subdivision.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but it is a uh ironically, when you look it up, um, it is a subdivision. That was crazy.
SPEAKER_03It was so weird.
SPEAKER_00It was really weird.
SPEAKER_03It's really just city streets. Yeah, I guess.
SPEAKER_00But anyway, yeah, but it is it is a subdivision. Um so you know, I I minded my business.
SPEAKER_03I had the prettiest yard. He would tell people to change their paint colors. You were the hated person in that neighborhood. Yeah. You were the bitch.
SPEAKER_00I was like, Well, you know the only time I had I left paint samples is it was it would I owned the house beside me and sold it. And I did, and it was so pretty. I did a lime wash on the brick. But so it had a uh uh burgundy red deep cranberry undertone to the brick after I limewashed it. Well, she thought she was putting a Tiffany blue door on there. It didn't match. I mean, it didn't, it's not that it didn't match, it was not the right tone for the house. It ruined my house. But it wasn't your house anymore.
SPEAKER_03They bought it.
SPEAKER_00But honey, I went and knocked on the door and gave them some paint samples and I said, This looks like shit. You could probably choose from these. These, you know, here's some nice colors, you should try them because you've kind of ruined the house. Yeah. And I'm just being nice because everybody's like making fun of you. Yeah. I mean, w why not just say it to their face? Yeah. And they took my advice and painted the door, and it was beautiful. But and they had bought the house from me, so they knew who I was. They knew. They knew they were they knew they were gonna get it. Yeah. But this half moved in down the street. You're the person that went out. I probably was. I'm not now, because I I don't bu I don't I don't care. Like I don't bother people unnecessarily. But these people moved um they were executives for BMW. They moved from Germany.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00So let's she was cultural difference. No, it wasn't no damn cultural difference. It was she was a pain in the ass. And they were um they were these people, they did not they were all about in the environment. Listen, I'm a I'm not I'm about the environment too. But you know, they they wouldn't use their air conditioning. They had a lawnmower that didn't have a motor on it. Oh Lord. All this kind of shit. And then they didn't eat they well, they were they were they were not normal because they had children and nut they wouldn't eat um sugar or bleach flour. Oh Lord. Satan. Satan. So um well, my irritation with her. Well, so listen, I she I kept making comments like, leave me alone. No, I don't recycle because it's a farce. No, that is that is a huge scam in our country. Right. And I just I'm not wasting my time. Um, I would rather put it in the can if somebody a business owner wants to do it, that's fine. But um read about it. It's it's a joke in Greenville anyway. Yeah. So well that that was a problem. Cause I, you know, evidently I needed to recycle everything. Well, that irritated me. I love it.
SPEAKER_03Because she would call you out on it. Yeah. It's not that recycling irritated. Indirectly, she wasn't brave enough passive aggressively.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00But one day, so I did have the prettiest yard in the neighborhood.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00I did. You did. But I worked in it every day. Well, you know how you'll get a sprinkle that lasts two seconds. Well, that doesn't water a damn thing. Right. So I was, and I when I would get home from work, it was therapeutic for me to water.
SPEAKER_03You always had your yard being watered. Oh, loved doing it.
SPEAKER_00Just it was.
SPEAKER_03We would be out there with the hose, watering his grass, moss, and ivy.
SPEAKER_00Blowing. I mean, it it was like I lived there. And do you know that crazy nut walked her ass up to my house? I'm on another block and came up to me while I'm watering. It's a miracle I did not just hose her down. That's what I should have done. She said, Don't she open with, don't you think your yard has had enough water? That was the last time she ever even walked by my house.
SPEAKER_03That was it. What did you because I know that would just sent you over. That was like God.
SPEAKER_00It was so bad. It pissed. Oh my God. I was so mad. I cussed her from my yard. I followed her all the way down the block cussing her ass.
SPEAKER_03And she's lucky you probably weren't in your underwear because I may have been.
SPEAKER_00I because I would do that. But she, I mean, the nerve to come up there and tell say that to me. And I everything that had been building up for several years just came out. Came right out. And and she was done talking. So she was leaving. I was like, I'm not finished. So I followed her down the sidewalk, and I was yelling at her down the sidewalk. And I remember the last thing I said. I don't remember everything I said. Uh-huh. It was not good. But the last thing I said, which I love, is since they were executives for BMW, they each got um at that time, this is twenty-five years ago, they got free five series BMWs as their company car. And I said, and if you give that uh damn much care about the environment, you need to park those damn BMWs and get you a horse. I want to see you riding on a damn horse. And and I'm sure there were all kinds of F bombs all so she took her ass home. Well it was I was in the house. I was I don't I was in the kitchen. I may have been making dinner or something. I don't know what I was doing. The doorbell rang and it was her husband. I said oh now I'm gonna have to whip his ass so I was like hell let's do this I will beat his ass right there on the front porch. So I answered the door and I was like yes Peter and he was like I I understand you and my wife had words today and I said we sure did because your wife forgot not to mess in my damn business and he was like well I I didn't come to cause problems. I came to apologize for her and I was like you don't need to worry about her just keep her ass down there. Yeah that's funny and if she had been like nice she was never nice she was always harping on what everyone ate and just like leave me like a damn gnat just I bugging you. Yeah that is and all and she was all into um I we'll probably get text messages but I won't say it because I think it's weird. Um she was big into la leche breastfeeding I think breastfeeding is wonderful I think it's natural I think it's great for the baby. I wish I'd been breastfed because I was not a healthy baby I think that's good for the baby so I'm not saying that but she was um a la leche coach I don't know what la leche it's a group of women like it's a for breastfeeding and that's all great but her oldest was six and still breastfed oh gosh now that's a little extreme they called it their quiet time oh we're gonna have quiet time so you know again this is just my opinion that's kind of weird yeah I don't want that memory I would not want that memory right when you're six you can remember I can remember when I was literally I can remember when I was things that happened when I was two I don't want to remember that yeah I think it's weird.
SPEAKER_03That is yeah because I can remember like kindergarten stuff and I can remember I can remember some preschool stuff. Yeah but you mostly traumatic things I'm just kidding though. No I always joke with my mom because and she feels bad. She'll be like oh my gosh I can't believe that's a memory you know like she feels bad. But when I was in preschool I when she left you at the grocery by yourself. No I fell down the steps like we were walking in together. I don't know like it's not her fault. I don't know maybe she let go of my hand I don't know but I fell down the steps going in like outside and it was concrete and it like you know skinned my face up and everything or whatever. But I can remember that and she's like it breaks her heart every time I bring it up or whatever.
SPEAKER_00So that's it's a running you told me she pushed you down the step that is not true. You told me you told me that is a lie you told me that she got mad at you because you didn't want to go and you said she said take your ass in there and she pushed you down the step that's not true.
SPEAKER_03It is funny how like but I can remember not trauma things but I can remember playing on the playground in preschool like I can remember playing there and stuff. Like I can remember certain things. I was in a high I wouldn't want to remember being on the teat when I was six.
SPEAKER_00No and I remember like I was in a high chair and I know I wasn't over two I mean I don't remember a lot from that young of an age but my when my grandmother got shocked and almost killed in the kitchen in front of me. Yeah um she there was a ground out and she touched the s um she was making me rice in with butter and she touched the refrigerator and the stove at the same time. That's crazy. And I can rem I remember that because I how old are you when you learn to talk? I don't I mean I was just learning to talk. Probably like that age guy. Because I was saying I called her Ma. Mm-hmm I said Ma Ma Cause I could see her sh you know she was in the floor almost dead.
SPEAKER_03Yeah that's crazy. So yeah oh my gosh. So yeah I don't at six you can definitely remember some things and don't need to remember as a gay man I do not want to remember that I don't want to remember latched on.
SPEAKER_00No and you know it's at different times it's funny because I asked my mom one time I said why did you not breastfeed me? Because I did have a lot of health issues as a child. Well you were just a mess up from the beginning. Yeah like my grandmother said you were almost a miscarriage can you believe she said that but I did to ask my mom one time as an adult I just said you know why why was I not breastfed how did you even know you weren't breastfed I ask I ask I'm like I was so not healthy was yeah you know I was in the hospital several times just sickly child and she said well when you know she said it wasn't that sh that she was against it but you know I guess every decade every so she said it was just not the trend like formula had came out and that was the big push push you know that's healthier that's better yeah you know just like everything else we and she said so you know I just went with that. Yeah I don't know if I was on the boob or not but if I were I mean I know it's inconvenient but you know it saves a lot of money.
The Paint Colors That Ruin Homes
SPEAKER_03Yeah formula's expensive but then you got a pump and all that anyway I'm glad we don't have to deal deal with any of that. But going back to I kind of got on this soapbox and you just triggered it on the phone with you the other day but going back to neighborhoods and door color or paint color I got off on this whole trend because I was driving through town the other day I mean I was coming to the warehouse and I noticed this house had painted its like bottom foundation. This was a nice neighborhood right yeah like nice ish but you the like swimming pool blue you know like the pool we went to as a kid when it was drained it was blue. You know that bright sky blue yes you know like they paint concrete pools that sky ass bright blue in this neighborhood and I'm like why are you painting like okay this is how I got on my box the other day with Stephen Rant for no reason but look around have you ever seen someone paint that like when you pull up to your house you think oh yeah that looks good like what is wrong with you that person when they pull up to their house they're like oh hell yeah but look around no they they think they think they did something drive to your bougie neighborhood in your area you all know no matter how small of a town you're in or how big there's the one neighborhood people drive through oh they live in this neighborhood goes go see what they're doing before you pick out your paint colors if you don't have taste or if you don't know if you have taste or don't have taste maybe pick your color out and then drive through their neighborhood and go does is this on with some of this or whatever. Is this gonna work? Like okay there's some houses in front of our house there's two one of them painted all of their stuff safety red as Steven likes to call it it it's not Steven it is called y'all know what I'm talking about. You can go to Home Depot it's called safety red there's shutters everything to work it's not cranberry it's not cherry it's not fire engine it is safety red it is like the brightest safety red yeah it's fire hydrant yeah fire hydrant red and I'm like but they paint okay well first of all the people painted it and now they've sold the house but the new people hadn't painted it a different color.
SPEAKER_00And I'm like what is wrong with you do you I am happy to drop off some paint samples. That would be nice because see I think that's a cert public service people need.
SPEAKER_03Should we start doing that just for people? And you know now with Chat GPT we could even take a picture of their house have it switch out to the color that we think and print it out and give it to them too. I think it would be a great visual. Then the other people write down from us in a house they painted well first it was the brightest turquoise I mean and the house looks nice. It is a builder gray I mean you know brick and stone and whatever house and they painted theirs like the most neon powder blue I don't even know how to describe that and they've just updated it. It's a neon powder green now. Will you take a picture I want to see it it is so hideous. And both of these houses both houses who painted it the most gosh awful color they didn't stop at the shutters they do the shutters they do the door they do their mailbox they do their planters they do the bird path any accent they could get a hold of they both painted it a halt of getting a hold no a halt of a halt of not a hold of no a halt a halt of for sure that that is I mean if they have some cement blocks around a a a flower bent they're gonna be painted that accent color. Hell that no seriously it is and I'm like where the hell have y'all been the flower pot sitting on the stance will be painted yeah it is I'll take a picture I can I can prove it one of them put like a star a 10 star medallion on their like hanging on the front of their house it's the color hideous but drive around look around open your eyes what the hell this probably doesn't match yeah or this maybe too much I want everyone who's listening when they pull up to their home today take a double take we lost you know we lost like a couple hundred listeners probably out of this one it's fine we're doing we're doing God's work we they're like they don't want anybody to tell them what to do but they I need and it's the thing is like Oh I have people tell you tell me what to do I'll tell you what to do. We can take criticism yeah I mean and I ask for it I want feedback like I even check myself like is this bad I know feel like this is good well we got on that the other day let's let's take out another hundred let's see me categories we can take out with owning businesses and we were discussing it we're not going into anything that would give any detail but we were just discussing some business owners and like how they don't look like do a you literally have to step back and look at your home at your business but like you and I do this all the time. We will figure we will be like we have effed up where did it go wrong? We're in the ditch here. Yeah and we're and I will talk about it we will be like okay here is what's happened we got off track here because we got too focused on this or too busy here or we went too far this direction. Now we gotta swing it back around and it may take months to make that change no matter what it is.
SPEAKER_00Or a year or two years. Yeah depending on how much money and and what it is that went wrong.
SPEAKER_03But sometimes I'm just like But we know we do know we screwed up yeah or we hit a home run. We either ways analyze we're constantly probably too damn much we need to be oblivious like the rest of these people they're doing just fine.
SPEAKER_00They got up this morning yeah but they're not I mean that's the thing they got up and their house is an ugly color and I mean I guess I guess at the end of the day if they think it's beautiful that's you know and it listen as I'm sitting here saying this I'm gonna like it I guess I had to I did I have completely double standards. Because if somebody said to me if I walked out of here tonight and and somebody said your shoes are ugly I'm gonna be like F you right have you looked in the mirror so I guess everybody just do what the hell you want to do. It's true we take it all back just I mean paint your shit paint it turn it to whatever turquoise bright yellow but but I'm like it is crazy like I and I look in the mirror every day and I'm like okay is this acceptable and sometimes I know it's probably not but I know that it's not it's not so if I walked out and somebody said what in the hell are you wearing I'm gonna go I know right I look like a homeless person with a homeless person with bad taste. I get it like I know when I've yeah well I know when something's wrong. Yeah and I don't think other people got the memo.
SPEAKER_03I guess I don't know it is you got a self-review in all areas because it mm I don't know I'm just gonna shut up I don't belong in I don't belong in a neighborhood. I don't belong in HOA I I just need to be no I'm going back to defend myself. All the other houses except for those two aren't messed up. It's not like everyone painted their shit wrong. No because I'm going back I'm standing behind my word now those two people need to take a review and look around so there I said it. That's like my mom's neighborhood you know it's a very nice neighborhood nice neighborhood small town country it's only like I think there's 13 houses in this neighborhood and when they bought that yeah they're all on five acres or more when they bought there it was like you know what up the it neighborhood there you know whatever well this family had they were in the military you know thank you for your service they were stationed in Hawaii they came back and painted their house something you would see in Hawaii like a turquoise something you would see on the beach stuck out like a damn sore thumb. And I'm like look around look at the neighborhood the other 12 houses in your neighborhood why are you painting yours pastel pastel blue green sea foam when you are in now the middle of Tennessee you ain't in Hawaii like why are you doing that you you're not bringing it back with you you left there but funny that you bring that so my cousin lives in Clemson and um a nice subdivision goes back to that subdivision thing.
SPEAKER_00Well if you y'all know if you live in a college town in a great college town like Clemson with a great university not to not that I'm partial but you're gonna have a lot of international people. Well yeah people from all over professors professors so they're gonna live there and you know I look at everything from a real estate and a design point and and it goes hand in hand. I'm just gonna tell you well the house across the street from them has been for sale for I can't tell you how long. And you're like what's wrong? I'm like what is going on? I mean I know what is going on and I don't I gotta be careful because I don't want to offend anybody I and I'm not saying this in an ugly way directed before you say I don't even know about this house.
SPEAKER_03But what it comes down to is whether it can be culture cultural or like the Hawaii it's out of place no matter where you put like it's fine in those places.
SPEAKER_00Well and see they are um I don't know what country they're from um but it's it's one maybe uh Indonesi one of the Indonesian kind uh countries so I'm not sure which one and that's really irrelevant. I know they're from another country.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well they their taste is a little different. And their door I mean it's just they took a nice house it's just not it doesn't fit in. It doesn't have curb appeal. And it goes into their gardening because they um wherever they're from they don't know what are plants and flowers and what are weeds. So they have tended and grown weeds in their yard that they think are plants.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it but it gets worse. So if that that's not bad enough well people tend to hire real estate agents that they're comfortable with their real estate agent is also I think from the same country they're from I get that you know because they're comfortable language and talking but they can't see what's wrong.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm it's true.
SPEAKER_00So it's like oh it's just a bad situation and I feel bad for 'em because I'm like how are you gonna get out of this? Like you you need somebody to say hey let's get a landscaper in here let's paint this door let's paint these shutters we can sell this house.
SPEAKER_03Right. Well they'll end up just taking a big cut on it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah and losing a lot of money that they didn't need to lose they didn't need to lose so okay before we offend anybody else because I had another topic but we'll talk about that next yeah just go ahead and go ahead and text us on our hotline if we really yeah the hotline text us to the hotline number it's down in the show notes.
SPEAKER_03We can handle it but just go ahead and tell us off it's fine.
Wrap Up And Listener Requests
SPEAKER_00If you are nursing your 12 year old while you're staring at your your sea foam green front door with purple shutters go ahead and text us.
SPEAKER_03Right we can help you out all right we gotta pull this baby over shits and giggles has got to go I hope y'all have a great week remember to leave us a review wherever you're listening to our podcast. Oh my goodness. And if we've offended you sorry we'll make it up soon we do love you. Bye
